I had an early 60's lake placid blue strat that I sold to a friend around 1975. I decided to get a les paul custom, and used the money from the strat sale to fund it.

I sold the les paul 20 years later. I hurt my shoulder, and it was just too heavy. I now have a honeyburst satin strat in my collection, and I'm loving it.

My first guitar (used from a family friend) that I worked off by doing yard work, $30. This isn't my picture but that's the same guitar, mine had a cracked pickguard as well.

I had almost forgotten about this one which is still dear to my heart. It's a 2006 MIM Sunburst Standard Strat which I installed Fender locking tuners, Mint Green Pickguard and pickup covers w/ Knobs. This was the year when Fender did the upgrades to the MIM Standards by including a thicker trem block, shielded compartments, and jumbo frets. I had gotten this brand new in 06 and had it until I sold all of my electric guitars at the end of last year. It was my baby and I now regret letting it go.

Late 60's Gibson Les Paul Jr.

Bought it for $50.00.... Sold it for $50.00
what a dumb*ss

I learned my lesson... I don't sell anything and I have the shortage on storage space to prove it.

Traded in my first Stratocaster, bought new in 1963, 3-color sunburst. Had it five years.

1989 Tele Plus Deluxe

I have bought and sold tons of gear over the years. This is the only electric guitar I regret selling. There are two acoustics I regret as well but I don't have pics of them. A Japanese Sigma DR-41 and a Fender 12 string which I cannot remember the model number or name. Both were sold around the same time. Early 80s.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

There is really only one guitar I miss--my stripped to the wood (and sealed) 1987 Strat Plus w/ rosewood finger board. I bought it at Music 6000 in 1993. It was my first Strat and I really kind of miss it. I have since purchased a 2000 Clapton Strat.

Of all the guitars I've sold, traded, or lost (to theft, I've never actually just "lost" one before) this one is the one I kinda miss. A black Rickenbacker 430.

To the left of me in this shot c. '80-'82:

Better shot of same model/color:

Told this story too many times. I'm trying to let it go . . .

Sold my 1971 Fender Mustang for book money to go to college. At the same time I GAVE AWAY my Univox Superfuzz thinking I never need it without a guitar to play.

I've since bought quite a number of guitars, but I've never sold one and probably won't. They better get me a big casket 'cuz I'm taking 'em all with me!

Although I haven't sold or traded any guitars other than the 11 lb. lefty '78 Strat that I traded for the Marshall JCM 800 2204 half stack that I still have,I traded that because after having a spinal fusion it became too heavy for me to play. The guitars that I wished I'd never let go were a '61 SG bodied Les Paul Custom with 3 gold plated pups and the most incredible action that I ever saw and a '64 Firebird VII in near mint condition. They were being by my buddy in his guitar store back in the mid-70s for $450 and $400 respectively.I have kicked myself soundly every day ever since for no having the common sense to get a loan to buy them.

To make this little tale even sadder my buddy offered me a package deal of the Firebird and an actual Marshall1959 Plexi covered at the factory with white "Elephant Hide" Tolex with an electric blue grille cloth for $1,100.It still breaks my heart to even think about what I let go.

I traded an early 70's LP Deluxe Goldtop for a 55/74 LP Special. The Special was stolen along with a early 70's White Strat. I replaced the Strat with a 79 hardtail which did me well for a few years but has sat in the case since 84 after I bought my Kramer Pacer. The stolen Strat was one I wish I still had because it played as well as my EC.
I sold a 70's LP Custom BB for rent but I just replaced it in new July for 4 times what I paid for the first one. I haven't bought a lot of guitars - I tend to stick with the same one for years. My new LPC will be my #1 now for years to come.

I was very close to buying a 1979 Gibson Les Paul KM brand new. the local music store had one for around $700 (that is how much Les Pauls sold new for then). The "KM" model meant it was handmade at Kalamazoo instead of a normal mass production Nashville one. The KMs are some of the finest Les Pauls, in my opinion. Annnnnd ... like an idiot ... I did not buy one. Ugghhhh.
