By the heading, I mean what is exactly the difference with Texas, Chicago, and now I see a posting on here with West Coast Blues ? Don't get me wrong, I love the Blues and enjoy playing them but , I never really knew what the difference was as far as these " Styles " are concerned. To me, the blues are the blues no matter what . Maybe I'm wrong but if somebody could tell me the difference ?

Listen to Muddy Waters then listen to SRV. Classic Chicago vs Texas tone and styles. Chicago birthed the Blues from the Mississippi Bible belt cotton field workers looking for something better. From that poverty and hard way of life rose the whole Blues movement. Then the English got hold of it and everything else issued forth upon the people. And here we are today....... Different styles of the Blues, but all the same in the larger scheme of things.

Jeff, growing up in Chicago listening to my transistor radio late at night when my parents and little sister were asleep, I learned all about the blues and rhythm&blues and soul so now that wiki is here they can explain it to you without the fear of getting discovered and grounded for your late evening music studies lol.

I've always thought of the different blues styles as having a little different mood and tone. Texas blues can be upbeat kinda edgy and bright with the "Texas shuffle" for instance. An example of this would be Pride and Joy or Cold Shot. They can all cross over each other and do. ZZ Top has songs that reflect lots of different blues types. ZZ Top is from Texas aren't they?
