fender blues deluxe reissue problem with 2nd channel

The unit when first turned on will function properly for about ten minutes. Then 2nd channel will latch on, red led comes on; Cannot be switched on or off and has weak audio output. If turned off and on with function switch or power switch, 2nd channel will still be latched on and red led on. Cannot be turned off to use 1st channel.

Any ideas??

Hi duluthltv,

The typical cause for a problem like this is the +/- 16 VDC power supply, namely cracked solder joints or circuit traces. This power supply is near the lower edge, center of the main board, consisting mainly of two large ceramic resistors, zener diodes and a few caps and resistors.

You can check for + 16 VDC and - 16 VDC at pins 4 and 8 of each of the three op-amps, as an indication of the supply functioning properly. If you are missing one, or both, supply voltages at the op-amps, you will have to remove the main board and check the solder joints and circuit traces around the supply.

A problem with this supply can also cause reverb and loop problems, as the three (*four) op-amps are used for 1) channel switching, 2) reverb, and 3) the effects loop. [*4)one more op-amp if yours has the mute circuit]

See schematic:

Other possibilities are a bad op-amp, or even a bad relay. But, from your description, it seems like the supply is the culprit.

Also, check out the "Modern Amp" section of the forum for posting about amps. You might get more/better responses posting there.
