Hi guys I was wondering if it is normal to get some slight buzzing when fretting notes. This is occurring on both my strat and tele and both have been set up recently. I was just wondering if this is a normal occurrence? Thanks

I wouldn't think so. Who set up the guitars for you ? Did you go to a qualified tech or did a friend do it , or even worse, did you go to Guitar Center ?

Your action is too low or your truss-rod needs an adjustment (could happen due to humidity and temperature changes) or one, possibly more, of the frets (as in the metal bars) is/are too high.

I had a luthier do a s/u once for me, and he also set the strings too low. He told me I'd shortly "love" it.
Nope. I loosened the truss rod a little for some necessary bow and have'nt looked back.
I think some luthiers opine that your picking action be much lighter than some of us like.

I wouldn't be so fast to declare there is something wrong just yet. A principle question needs to be answered before an appropriate answer can be given.

Do you hear the buzzing through the amplifier or only when playing unplugged? If it's only when playing unplugged then there may not be anything wrong at all. A great number of Fender instruments will buzz unplugged. Not all but lots. If it comes through when amplified then you have an issue.

Here is a check list that I go by: Others feel free to add...
1. String height
2. Truss rod (relief)
3. Nut slot cut
4. Noisy saddle (just had this happen)
5. Level frets
6. Fret crown (flat frets bad)

If it's the nut slot you will hear it on open strings. If it's the saddle it will sound like bad distortion mixed in (tight rattle). The fret crown being flat will sound like this too, but only on flat frets. If it's a loose rattle that is not as bad when you play softly, it may be high frets, truss rod, or your action is just set low. More than likely, if you had your guitars set-up they lowered your action or tightened your truss rod and this is the result. I'm assuming that your picking technique is not creating vertical vibration when you play. Personally, I like my action set high enough that I can bend the G, B, and high E string without the string above it slipping under my finger (when I go to bend, the string above it lines up close to middle of my finger tip). The low E, A, and D set so that I can play them a little harder without fret noise. That's pretty much how I decide how high to set my action. Good news is that once you narrow it down, all these things are a pretty easy fix. Oh, I did play a guitar one time that had a rattle that I could not find. I turned out to be the truss rod being loose and vibrating in the neck  Sometimes it's just a loose part. As BMW-KTM said, if it's not coming through the amp it can be considered no problem.

Hi everyone,

Both instruments buzz I don't here anything through the amplifier except possibly on the clean channel there is some odd fretting when the volume is low but its hardly noticeable. The instruments do buzz more when they hare tuned in drop d or half step down

Well.. tuning to Drop D shouldn't cause any kind of noticeable buzz issues... but tuning 1/2 step down... the guitar needs to be set up to that string tension.
It does affect the tension on the neck if all 6 strings are tuned down 1/2 step or lower.
And yeah... can cause obnoxious buzz and rattle that can come through when amplified.

Best to choose which tuning you prefer to stay in... Standard or down in SRV-Ville... then Set-Up the guitar appropriately 8)

Or if you need to play in both standard E tuning as well as Eb then dedicate one guitar to the dropped tuning and set it up accordingly.

Just setup for the lowest tuning you use (Drop D 1/2 step down?). Tuning up won't cause the buzzing. Also, if you like the lower tunings you may want to go with 10 or 11's string gauge.
