I never did get why all the adulation of John Mayer ever started in the first place.Granted he was/is a very good and even great guitarist but having said that,in my 40 years + of giggingI have heard just as good or even better tossing off riffs in music stores or on nightclub stages. As soon as his star began to rise, the guitar mags were clamouring to get an exclusive interview, where he always found a new opportunity to shoot himself in the foot and then promptly shove it in his mouth by exhibiting his monumental opinion of himself and spout off his racist and misogynistic views and opinions. Why Fender chose to give a culo like that his own signature guitar was beyond me from the start-he just held so many beliefs and opinions that rubbed people the wrong way anyway-this alone should have prompted Fender to distance themselves from him.

I doubt very much that John Mayer model Strats were flying off the shelves in numbers like the Jimmie Vaughn,Buddy Guy and even the more expensive Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton models, ever did.Maybe Fender realized that Mayer Strats weren't as lucrative a money maker as they had hoped and this had something to do with them parting ways. It's no great loss to me because I'd buy a dozen Johnny Marr Jaguars before I'd ever consider buying a John Mayer Strat-his voice grated on my nerves more than Justa Beaver's voice to ever prompt me to buy any of his albums.I guess that Gibson will maybe giving him a signature 335 etc.-after all they gave Keifer Sutherland his own signature model.

Why? What's he playing now? Has he been spooted with a Godin or BC Rich?

Mayer deserves credit for going from a pop star to a guitar god. I'm not sure that has happened before. But, I just dont dig that whisper-singing thing he does.
Sounds like Claudine Longet or Olivia Newton John to me. I'd rather listen to Micky Dolenz anytime...

I heard he's really, really, REALLY good at threading a worm onto a hook.
Apparently, he's a Master Baiter.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Mayer doesnt have to whack it. He's got Katy Perry to "handle" that for him.

A couple of yrs ago, Rolling Stone did a piece (did a number, really) on Mayer.
Taking him to task for his consumpion of women. If Mayer had been an aqua-velva on tear through the bath houses of the Village, Rolling Stone would have commended him for his 'courage'. How can any woman get involved with him and expect it to last?
Arent the wonen responsible for any of this? They were drawn to him because of his wealth and celebrity in the first place. He's a dufus with dark circles under his eyes wthout all that. Well, feminism is about the perks, not the resposibility. "The dog ate my home work/ my hard drive crashed/I dont recall...". Wah.

But, as it stands, he's the king, and it's good to be the king.
Walk proud Mayer, yours is no disgrace.

I never really understood the whole Mayer thing. He's a good player but not very original. He's a POP guy. He's not an original Blues guy. Most of the Blues based stuff he does has been done a million times. The voice and faces are pretty amusing though. He has Joe Cocker beat by a mile.
