Maybe we should put a collection together so that we could get the poor lad a used SRV strat.

I don't care about that John Mayer endorsement. I lost respect after his racist comments..

TBH, he may be a good player, but he certainly aint no Hendrix, Vaughn or Clapton. not worthy of a signature line.. his only hit with the younger audience was over a decade ago.

IMO I think Fender should give endorsements to newer artists that are in the mainstream rather than ones that belong in the old boys club that no younger players know about.

Who cares about John Mayer? Give me a John Mayall signature Telecaster instead.

Haha ha! For sure man!! I couldn't agree more! John Mayall -there's a real legend. Really deserves more recognition for all the years of contribution to music. He would be very deserving of a signature guitar for sure. 8)

I just read Joe Bonamassa is hitting the road with all Fender gear.
Do I smell a new artist model?

That is interesting as I just saw Joe Bonamassa "Skinnerburst" 1959 Les Paul as a new release from Gibson. Not that an artist can never have enough endorsements, just interesting

It's ridiculous to think for a single second that Mayer might have left Fender because of his signature Strat sales or that they weren't giving him stuff anymore.

It's just as ridiculous to think that Fender dropped him because his Strats weren't selling. I consulted for 3 different Guitar Centers in the US...one in California, one in Florida, and one in Pennsylvania. During those 18 months, the JM Strat was the best selling guitar from the Fender signature series in each store for about 75% of the time and it was a close 2nd or 3rd during the few months that it wasn't.

Think logically about it...if Fender was dropping artists because their signature models weren't selling or their career was cooling off, I'm pretty sure they would have dropped Dave Murray by now. I've never even seen his signature model in stock at any retailer I've worked with. The Squier Pete Wentz and Joe Trohman guitars are incredibly unpopular...and Fall Out Boy is slowly approaching the "where are they now?" category.

I would guess his decision was based on Fender "selling out" in some aspect. I haven't heard any specifics but I have heard people saying that Fender is making some big decisions that end up sacrificing quality so that they can speed up production, produce more inventory, and raise their prices. I'm sure Mike Eldred's termination didn't help things...I wouldn't be surprised if whatever happened to Mike is part of a series of decisions that are contributing to, as Mayer tweeted, Fender not being the same company that he started with years ago.

By the way...if you don't care about John Mayer and this whole topic, what's the point of reading this thread and then taking the time to post here? I mean I don't like the band U2 but I would never visit their forum and tell everybody there that I hate the band.

To be endorsed by fender now, you have to play exclusively Fender guitars and amp.
John play Martin, Duesenberg and some other. Maybe that's why

Are you saying that Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden no longer can switch out his Strat for an SG for the songs that require it, nor use his Marshall amps?
Or that Jim Root of Slipknot who has several Fender Signature guitars has to drop his Jim Root signature Orange amp and cab?

This topic is about an endorsement deal. They're everywhere, those deals. I always seem to question whether the artist really prefers the gear he's getting paid to hawk, or if he/she just got the best deal with a particular brand.

I prefer to think that artists I follow will use whatever they really, truly prefer. Creative artists should use the right tool for the job. Choose the right crayon from the box. If their hands are tied, isn't their creative expression also tied?

Did Alex Lifeson really think that Hughes and Kettner amps were the best tool for getting his job done? Perhaps. I'm skeptical though.

Fender is an iconic brand, and it's not very likely that little ol' John Mayer is going to do any damage to it.

I don't know who his current girlfriend is. Maybe she pissed him off? "You love your guitars more than me"?
I heard he changes women like he does guitars???????
