Does anybody have any advice on how to write songs. I can write lyrics that sound okay and I can figure out the melody, but when it comes to tabbing it all out or even figuring out chord progressions I get stuck.

HELP!!!!

well, when i write my songs, i start by figuring out the lyrics, and then figure out how it will be sung, then get the chords then the chord progression, and then i would tab it in the notebook that everything else is in, then i go up onto my computer and type up the lyrics, and the tab. But of course when they're all finished and as perfect as i can get them..

lot of work. someone might have a faster way, but thats how i do it

most I have riff or a melody in mind, I put up the guitar and play it often so that I don't forget it. Then I wrote it on paper. When I hear a drum pattern in mind to this riff or melody I write it below. So I go further.
Then I program the drums (battery) in Cubase, then I add a guitar line, search out a guitar sound (guitar rig 2) what's near what I hear in mind and play the riff or melody sometimes and then I record it.
The lyrics comes later.

cheers :D

Everyone has their own way of writing and there's no right way. Some start with lyrics, some with a riff, some with chords. As for you trying to come up with chord progressions, it just takes time. More experience the easier it is. Some theory lessons would help in that area. Learning what goes with what.
