It's no secret to my family & friends that Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love seeing the costumes and most of all, that's when I get to see all of my favorite horror films on TV. So, what are your 10 favorite horror films of all time ? Here's my list ;

1.Bride Of Frankenstein 1935
2.Dracula 1931
3.Frankenstein 1931
4.The Wolf Man 1941
5.Night Of The Living Dead 1968
6.The Mummy 1932
7.Son Of Dracula 1942
8.The Raven 1935
9.House Of Frankenstein 1944
10.The Invisible Man 1933

Faves-

Night of the living dead. (original & remake)
Dawn of the dead (original & remake)
Halloween
Friday the 13th (1-3)
Frankenstein
Dracula
28 days later
Return of the living dead 1 & 2
The Exorcist
The Devils Rain (cheesy 70's flick with John Travolta- saw it at the drive in with my parents)

I'm sure there are more, but these come to mind. Saw many of them at the drive in back in the day. Saw Frankenstein & Dracula & the Mummy on a black & white TV as a kid.

I remember a few wacky horror flicks from the 50's & 60's as a kid- like the crawling hand, and invasion of the bodysnatchers. They had some kind of "horror theater" on TV when I was a kid in the 70's and me & my cousins would watch them and get scared and try to scare each other!
What fun. They don't make 'em like they used to. Back then, they had to scare you with dialog and acting. They couldn't just CGI some gnarly monster.

I also liked King Kong & Godzilla, but I don't know if those are considered horror. Incidentally, King Kong is supposedly Hitler's favorite movie.

I didn't know that KK was Hitler's favorite film. To me, the classic Universal films from the 1930's & 40's are the best that were ever made. Jack Pierce, who was Universal Studio's head of makeup back then , was the genius who created all of those characters such as the Frankenstein Monster, the Mummy, The Wolfman, etc. I did enjoy the remake of the Wolfman which came out in 2010 even though it didn't do well at the box office. Now, Universal has announced that they want to do re-makes of all of their horror classics but , I'm not completely sold on the idea. If they were to stick with Jack Pierce's classic monster make ups and let Rick Baker do them, and ease off of the CGI , then I think they would be a good idea.

The Thing (John Carpenter version)
The Exorcist
The Exorcist III
Halloween (original)
A Nightmare On Elm Street
The Strangers
Dead Birds (stumbled upon this one… low budget but was kinda cool)
An American Werewolf in London

Unfortunately, that movie breaks the suspension of disbelief for me by having truly horrible "Norwegian". If he had spent a little more time on teaching the actors to repeat a passable sentence, it would have been on my list.
The same is a problem with several movies where actors try not-too-hard to speak "German".

One of my favourite horror films was a little known one that starred Tony Curtis as a homicide detective who gets involved with a murder that sends him on a search deep into the occult and American Indian deities. The movie is called "Manitou" and some of it I found to be more chilling than The Exorcist.Another little known movie that I found incredible scary was "The Sentinel" that movie and "Manitou" had me sleeping with the lights on and a Bible under my pillow for months.

I have a box set of 50 of the most revered classic horror movies from "Nosferatu" in 1922 right up to "The Night of the Living Dead" in 1968.With the exception of 3,they are all B&W,but I enjoy watching them in B&W because that's how I remember seeing them at the Saturday Matinees where we'd be $hit-scared to walk home in the daylight. The set is released by Mill Creek Entertainment- http://www.millcreekent.com Baby Boomers who went to the Saturday Matinees back in the '60s and '70s would certainly appreciate this set-it's priced at around $20 so that's a lot of entertainment for the money.

OMG! I saw that one at the drive in with my aunt & 3 female cousins when I was a kid. We thought it was really scary!

Poltergiest- went to the movies one day when it first came out. Didn't know what a Poltergiest was- I just said "Okay, I'll check it out". Tore my face off!!! I know there are scarier movies or whatever but I went in cold. I like doing that sometimes. It paid off with Poltergiest. That was in the early 80's I think.

The Day the Earth Stood Still- 1951-- I saw it around 1961-62. I was a little kid. Gort scared the Holy Heck out of me. I had bad dreams for a long time . It's still one of my favorite movies. It's in my top 50 list.

Everyone can come up with a top 100 favorite movies list but to me a top 50 is a harder list to make. Anyone else ever tried that? I have quite a few of my top 50 on DVD.

I have just about all of the Universal B&W Classics on DVD but, the ones that evade me are the Hammer films from England. Those were great films also. Anybody on here remember those ? They had their own versions of Dracula , Frankenstein, the Mummy, etc with great actors such as Christopher Lee , Peter Cushing , Herbert Lom , etc.
