At least personality cards were only on some guitars, rather than standard across the line. :)

That was very funny. I love my strat, but I also love competition, so while I hope Gibson gets taken down a notch for arrogance, I also hope they repent quickly and bring back choices and affordable models.

There are still several USA-made Gibsons cheaper than the cheapest USA-made Fender, so I don't really think it's all that bad.

And min-E tune (re-branded Tronical) isn't the worst extra - it's going to be around for a long time, unlike personality cards. You don't even have to modify the headstock, so you can always take them off and sell them, and put on your preferred manual machines instead. Personality cards, on the other hand, you'll be stuck with.

Now auto-intonation would be nice. The technology is there, so why not?

Lol good one
I definitely won't be buying a model from their current line. Wouldn't do it if I had the money.

Too Funny ! When I first heard of the self tune concept, I thought that it was an amazing idea (Video on the Gibson website), but not something I would want on my guitar. I tried one before & though it may be a great help for some budding musicians & pretty cool to watch the tuners move by themselves, it simply would get in the way. I've been tuning my own for decades so I wouldn't want one on mine.

I bought a 2012 Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom (On E-Bay) WITHOUT the minEtune on the back of the headstock. I love that guitar...Guess I better keep it as it will become more valuable since it doesn't have the now "standard" minEtune.

It should be an option, not standard issue as most guitarists have figured out how to tune a guitar!

Min-e-Tune is excellent. Downright excellent.
The notion that it doesn't stretch your strings is no more valid than a Deluxe Strats locking tuners not stretching your strings. No tuning peg stretches your strings, you stretch your strings. And yes, you can do it on the Min-e-Tune just the same way you do it on a regular guitar.
Oh and Tronical make em for Strats, Teles and Fender basses too.

Take it from someone whos about to play his 130th gig this year, on a Min-e-Tune system guitar.
There is nothing better than never having to worry about tuning up on a dark stage when the pressure is on.

My One of Six Les Paul Doublecut Junior. Oh yeah, it just did the solos on our next album without having to be retuned all day.

It's not so much about whether you can tune, but the speed of tuning. Instead of having to have several guitars with different tunings, you can just hit two buttons, strum, and two seconds later you have a different tuning. That makes it viable to change tunings between songs.

Um, no, it won't. Because the Tronical can be taken on/off so easily, and replaced with manual-only machines if you want them. Or used manually, for that matter. So there's no advantage to not having them.

Starter motors shold be an option, not standard issue in cars as most drivers have figured out how to operate a crank!
