I hope it's OK to post links to original material. Why is there not a Home Recording forum here, I wonder?

This one was just finished up last weekend. It's my own production, writing, performing, recording. For now, I suppose the title is Gun.

Fender related trivia: The guitar in the left speaker (and the solo) is my '96 Standard Strat played through a close-mic'd Mustang Mini. I don't know the exact amp setup off the top of my head, but it's a variation of the Marshall thing with a bit of short delay.

I hope you'll like it and I welcome any and all feedback.

Very nice recording! 8)

The style is a bit on the country side for my taste but I can appreciate the skill that went into this. I really enjoyed the solo, especially the tone.

My thoughts exactly. Very nice.
What other musicians/instruments did you have performing with you?

Good recording and mixing. Vocals had a hint of Neil Young to my ear. I liked it.

Thanks for listening, folks. I appreciate that the style is what it is and that it's not everyone's cup of tea!

blackstratacat: I'm the only one playing on this. There are two electric parts, plus one acoustic. There's bass, of course (a '62 reissue Jazz) and the drums are an Alesis SR-18.

Yes, thanks again for listening. I do this only for personal satisfaction and it's great to have a small audience to share with!

Very nice... I like it! Kind of reminds me of early Eagles. The whole song made me think of something like Neil Young jamming with The Eagles w/ Neil on lead vocals and Don Henley, Randy Meisner, etc... all on backing harmony vocals. You nailed it with that tune! 8)

Good use of the Alesis drums.
It's not uncommon for an artists to just throw in a generic, fake-sounding beat.
Your treatment shows that you gave it some thought.

Much appreciation and respect for the attention you paid to the recording.
Dont slack up now :D

Thanks. I also play drums and have a kit in my small studio. But, it's really difficult to get a recorded track that sounds like I want it to sound. And... this is no small thing, by the way... I can't really play them well enough to meet my own standards.

I've been sequencing/programming drum machines for over 20 years. To me, it was always important to consider these devices musical instruments. In line with that, I've invested the time to learn how to use these things with the same dedication I put into learning guitar.

I tend to go deep on the SR-18 (and the Boss DR-550MKII before that) playing with parameters of kit sounds and dynamics, time offsets, midi syncing with my deck, and anything else that results in a more satisfying sounding track.

At the end of the day, I understand that the trained ear will spot the sequenced drums vs. the acoustically played, real ones. But, for the most part, I'm satisfied that the results I get are better than what I'd get if I attempted to record real drums.

I thank you for noticing and appreciating the effort!
