Well the guitar is a 2004 Standard Mexican Strat that I bought with some kind of upgraded pickups, and it is strung with light gauge strings. Before that guitar I was playing on a Squier Jagmaster that I really loved. The amp I'm playing out of is actually an Ampeg SVT cab/head bass amp combo that I have turned down super duper low (neighbors). I really really like playing out of bass amps. If you turn down the bass almost all the way and then crank the gain and mids with about half treble, then let the tubes warm up and add a moderately modulating univibe effect - it sounds kind of '69/'70 Hendrixy. Nothing beats a Marshall for a good Hendrix tone though.. The pedal that I am using is a Zoom G1Next multi-effects processor. I definitely recommend that If you're on a budget but want some killer customizable effects. Usually I'd use a whammy bar as well..but I tend to get pretty carried away with those.

Other than that I'm just heavily inspired by J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughn, etc.. and of course Jimi Hendrix. I've been playing for 4 years now and my roommates are begging me to write my own songs and give Hendrix a rest. LOL, I'll get around to it I suppose. Thanks for the nice words fellas!

InsanityVamp,
Dude, nice job and Welcome to the forum.
Man, do what you want. You covered the song, kept the Hendrix vibe and I applaud you sir for doing so. In the end you do what you like and if you're happy, that's all that counts. I'm one of the Geezers here and lived during all the great music the 60's,70's had to offer.
What you using for the Uni-Vibe swirl. I use the Fulltone Deja Vibe III myself and I'm really happy with it.

If anyone really knows Hendrix's music, he never played anything exactly the same way twice.

Interesting statement. Does anyone? I think other than a virtuoso type, like Satriani or Banamassa, they all play it a bit differently everytime. Its called Soul.

Exactly Strat! That's how music evolves and gets better. Just look at the Blues. I think the OP did a nice job. He's not a hack by any means.
He kept the vibe and that's good enough for me Parrots are a dime a dozen. Just look at all Strat's With Hats that SRV created.

InsanityVamp, nice jamming, cool tribute to Jimi, thanks for posting. Reminded me of Ernie Isley too.

Thanks a bunch man, and to everyone else as well! I'm just using one of the presets on the G1N pedal that I tweaked a bit to sound more Jimi-esque. Did you ever catch a Jimi gig back in the day?

I'm always up for hearing another guitarist who does Hendrix covers-I've been doing them for over 40 years. You certainly capture a lot of his vibe and tone but I believe that if you let your mids and highs ring through a bit more or if you roll back your bass,it would sound more Jimi like. All in all you did a great job and I have to give you credit for having the testicular fortitude to take on such a difficult song-probably one of his hardest to cover note for note.Nobody will ever be able to emulate all of Jimi's licks, although Randy Hanson does the best job of it that I've heard.Anyway keep up the good work of keeping Jimi's music alive-you certainly have captured his spirit.

Nope never saw Jimi live. I was about 17 when he passed. Plenty of others though. Zappa, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Ten Years After, Queen, Alice Cooper, Johnny Winter, John Lee Hooker, Lonnoe Mack, Foghat, Dave Mason.... Tons of acts from all kinds of genres. It was a seriously great time for music. No huge, gigantic stage shows (except for Cooper) with fireworks and lasers, just regular lighting and great music.

Wicked man! He seemed to be blazing hot that night. That psychedelic feedback intro he played must have been astonishing to hear and witness, going straight into Are You Experienced. I'm jealous

8) you're a guitar player so jealous won't apply. Watch his live concert footage and you'll have better seats then I did lol. He was amazing to watch though, nobody before or since could do what he did with a guitar, until some one willing to invest the time comes along (hint hint :D ) I stood next to him for awhile at The Kinetic Playground in Chicago later that year during a Canned Heat/Rhinoceros concert, too stoned on LSD I couldn't talk to him but he was cool, just smiled and nodded to me. You can have a twinge of jealousy for a very brief moment for that  I see his room-mate from his time with Joey Dee and the Starlighters Jimmi Mayes from time to time. He has a new book out "The Amazing Jimmi Mayes: Sideman to the Stars".
