Alex Lifeson is not on this list. This list is therefore invalid... I'm kidding of course, But working man or limelight really should be in here.

For Alex Lifeson, I would suggest "Xanadu" or "Spirit of the Radio"

Admittedly, I did not see the list ... but here are some that I would expect to see (and would agree with) would be:

1) Jimmy Page "Stairway To Heaven" -- While some would maybe think this cliché or "the easy choice", it still deserves it. The solo is extremely well written and lyrical, and the perfect compliment to one of the most monumental rock songs of all time.
2) David Gilmour "Comfortable Numb" -- There is so many great Dave solos. This one is right up with any of them, and documents his greatness in this hallowed song. It is admittedly selected due to how huge this song is.
3) Eddie Van Halen "Eruption" -- The impact of this one track probably affected more guitarists than any other. If you were a rock guitar player in 1978, then you know what I am talking about.
4) Randy Rhoades "Mr. Crowley" -- Rhoades was amazing due to his compositional style based on more of music-theory understanding of music. He has a lot of amazing guitar solos, but I think this was one of his very best.
5) Steve Howe "Mood For A Day" -- What a track. I get shivers just thinking about it. I admit that Jeff Beck is my favorite of all time, but as pure skill goes ... there is no one better in the rock realm ever than Steve Howe of Yes. Period!
6) Michael Schenker in UFO's "Rock Bottom" -- This was a very influential track. Check out the live version on "Strangers In The Night". An epic solo.
7) Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird" -- I know everyone is sighing, but it deserves to be there. It is very well executed even though we have all heard it 2 million times.

Here are some solos that SHOULD be on the list:

a) Golden Earing "Twilight Zone" -- There was a short and a long version to the this song. The long version solo was a minute long if I remember. The solo was removed mostly from the short version. Great groove, great structure. Just very nice guitar work.
b) David Gilmour's solo work in Paul McCartney's "No More Lonely Nights" -- Very haunting as only Dave can be. Great playing.
c) Kansas "Carry On Wayward Son" -- A very well written and played solo by Kerry Livgren, likely one of the most under-rated rock players of all time. He never gets mentioned in any list, and should be.
d) Buck Dharma's guitar work Blue Oyster Cult's "ME 262" or "Buck's Boogie". Buck is likely the most under-rated rock player of all time. So much amazing guitar work and amazing song writing, and he sings. Ridiculously talented.
e) Pat Travers/Pat Thrall "It Makes No Difference" -- The live guitar work in Pat Travers Band's "Go For What You Know" is up and down, off the charts.
f) Thin Lizzy's "Live and Dangerous" -- I would have to really think which track, but there are so many amazing dual guitar solos on there, it is hard to choose the best. At least one track deserves to be on this list, for sure. I consider myself blessed to have seen Thin Lizzy live with Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson. This band was so good live, it was scary.
g) Alex Lifeson of Rush's "Xanadu" -- This was mentioned earlier and is the perfect guitar solo. So emotional and deliberate. Brilliant stuff.

I fully agree with Buck Dharma, but I need a list with Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions) playing "Sails of Charon". A solo later covered by artists like Metallica and Yngwie Malmsteen (and, alas, numerous Guitar Center kids, who need ten more years practice before they should even think about playing it).
