I have an opportunity to purchase a Sunn T50C. It has been well cared for, still looks new. However, it has a hum in it and I'm wondering if this was/is normal for these amps. I realize the reissues are not the same as original Sunn amps, but know very little else about them. The price seems reasonable, compared to what these amps normally go for on reverb and ebay. If Fender made an amp that was in the $300-500 price range (new tube amp), then I would rather have something new. I'm reading a lot of complaints about the Solid State Champion 100s, so I don't wish to go that route. So, any information you have on the Sunn T50C would be appreciated.

Hum ,how much is loud ? More volume more hum ?

Short answer; not normal on good amp .

It is a poor desing ? A noisy tube(s) , filter capacitor ?

With an older amp, hum can indicate a problem with the filter caps in the power supply. Not a difficult thing to fix if you know what you're doing but a repair guy could charge a lot for the job.

The manual doesn't show any hum balance pot for the amp and there doesn't seem to be a schematic available on the internet. It could be a case of badly laid out AC heater wiring, that would involve either conversion to DC heaters or just 50 Volt elevation with a voltage dicider on the power supply. Either way it's going to cost you extra.

IMO between $100 to $200

After you are good for 30 years with high quality parts,

But could be only a $20 tube too .

IMO if hum in any amp is normal it's junk. Don't waist your money. That would drive me crazy. Find a used tube amp you should have no problem finding one in that price range. Like a blues jr.

Remember that it could just be a low quality tube in the preamp, some brands of tube are more susceptible to hum. Caveat emptor, if you don't know what you're buying then walk away!
