Okay, so I know many members of this forum will roll their eyes at this (a response I'm sure is common with some, if not all, of my posts  ) but I'm slowly evolving into a folkie. Upon seeing the movie Inside Llewyn Davis, I looked further into Dave van Ronk, the man who the movie's main character is loosely based on. Though a good movie, it does not do the man justice. Dave began as a jazz musician, and eventually started doing folk songs in the 50s. He never wrote much original material, but his renditions of traditional songs are brilliant imo.

I'm wondering if anyone else is familiar with him and his music. He was a major influence to many who were involved with the Greenwich Village scene in the 50s and 60s (including Bob Dylan) and I'm finding myself trying to emulate his fingerpicking style. While it may be simplistic, sometimes it gives a more profound effect to the lyrics. Brings the old adage of K.I.S.S. to mind. Just wanted to share, and if just one forumite looks him up, I'll be happy. I can't be the only one here who listens to folk.

I think he has a voice like geese farts and have not been a fan for over 50 years though I think I have a CD of his somewhere. If you like Van Ronk check out Theodore Bickel also. A better choice would be Koerner, Ray and Glover. Tony Glover taught Bob Dylan harmonica.

I've heard some of his stuff and while it's not something I would listen to a lot I can enjoy it. I like all kinds of music, in fact there are only two kinds of music.... good and bad and each of us makes our own distinction.
