Okay, im just wondering how much a humbucker will change the tone. im thinking about getting one in the bridge position, but i like the sharp treble tone that the single pickup gives. Any help?

Pickups change the sound of a guitar overall. I read reviews of people replacing the pups in guitars with EMG 81/85's to improve the sound quality.

Although I've never replaced any pickups (don't buy the guitar if you don't like the way it sounds, right?), I would most definitely recommend reading reviews of particular pickups that may interest you. Otherwise you may just be wasting a bit of cash for something that may be poor sound quality.

Well as for one humbucker in the bridge postition, depending on the type, you will get alot heavier of tone and it will be much more powerful (rock type basically) Im not sure about the neck, depending on the type again, it will probably give you a smoother tone and jazzier type (I think, don't hold me to it though).

I would suggest Seymour Duncans, I replaced mine with the Hot Rodded Humbucker Set and it sounds AMAZING, I can get any type of sound I want, from rock to jazz, metal to blues I have it. That set has the SH-4 model in the bridge which gives you the power, and a SH-2 Jazz in the neck gives me the smooter sounds, if your looking for more power in the bridge position you could go with the pearly gates, I haven't played them, but I have heard great things about them.

So yea, thats about all the info I know, hope it helps.

The humbucker will give you more presence on the low end, and you'll be able to ride more crunch with it....those are the pros.

The cons? Well, you won't be able to do volume sweeps as effectively. And, if you're attached to the bridge sound at all (or even the phased sound) when phased between positions one and two...well, that will change.

You have a couple of options here that are related to your potentiometers (pots) that you will have to consider because you are mixing humbuckers and single coils on a single guitar.

Single coils (most anyway) take a 250k pot. There's a reason for this. Anythign higher and the naturally trebly single coil starts to sound like cats scratching a blackboard.

Humbuckers (most, anyway) take a 500k pot. They are not as bright, and with the bigger pot...yes, slightly more volume.

Your options: Either find a humbucker that will sound great with the 250k pots which are likely in your Fender, (otherwise your humbucker will probably sound pretty muddy), or upgrade your pots (at least the volume pot...) to 500k and find 2 single coils that will work effectively with these pots (I can't think of a lot of brands, but I'm sure Fender has one...or something because they're offering a humbucker in their new standards, and my Ibanez had an old set of DiMarzio's where they were mixed...SD probably also offers something.)

So...yes, there's a bit more to it than just changing the pick guard and wiring them in. I'd definitely do as much research as possible before purchasing a humbucker for your Fender.

the Strat bridge humbucker stands out
compared to a Strat bridge single coil
when playing heavier rock power chords
& makes your rock guitar solo articulation more defined
