I know nothing about pedalboards but I've reached a point where I am in need of a pedalboard and power supply.what are your thoughts on a powered board vs non powered? I like the idea of the boss bcb-60 (is it big enough?) or possibly a bigger( maybe too big) behringer style PBS-1000.only problem is a wah doesnt fit with lid closed..I've got boss, ibanez, mxr pedals and don't think I will need any larger sized pedals with the exception of the wah,all would fit well in the boss/behringer.I'm still not sure if I'm into Velcro..the setup will probably never leave my house so I don't need a bullet proof road case but like the idea of having my setup in some sort of protective case that can be easily moved around in one shot.i currently dont have a power supply unit and have pedals/batteries/cables scattered on the floor. plugging/unplugging everything in and buying 9volt batteries all the time is getting old.. :?

I bought a used Gator pedal board that has a soft case, but no power supply. I bought the One Spot adapter and extra daisy chain cable. I velcroed all the pedals down with industrial strength velcro. This set up works great for me, but the board is pretty heavy.

If your handy, you can put a board together with scrap pieces of wood that get thrown away and use the extra money to invest in a good power supply unit, cables, etc. that's what I did it and it's held up very well. There's lots of info out there on diy pedalboards.

Yep. I've built a number of pedalboards out of plywood. They don't look fancy or store bought but they're sturdy and functional. A couple years ago I did a pedalboard build thread and posted pics here on the forum. If you're feeling ambitious you could try to find it. Here is what it looked like back then. It doesn't look exactly like that anymore as I have swapped out some of the pedals but I think the wood part is still the same. I am going to be building a slightly bigger one sometime this winter.

My own feeling is if you have more than 3 or 4 pedals, and you play out of the house, get a power supply. It's well worth the piece of mind to not worry about a pedal going dead in the middle of a practice session. I have a Pedal Train 2 w/ VooDoo Labs power supply and 9 pedals with room for one more. I use a daisy chain off of my tuner for two of the pedals. I consider my board just right, not too big, not too small.

I'm pretty sure whatever I choose will rarely,if ever leave the house.i just like the suitcase idea..I am considering building one and buying a one spot.i think the chemistry pedalboard is kinda cool with the two levels and using zip ties instead of Velcro...not sure why I don't like the Velcro idea..I might be heading into the city on the weekend to pick up a one spot.i just don't want to buy one if I end up with a powered pedalboard.

That looks to be about the perfect size.

I wish I could get away with a simple setup but when you cover all different types of genres and eras, like we do, you need a little flexibility.
Here's my diy board constructed from..........a pallet.

Truthfully, I use my Zoom G3X multi effects unit more than my pedal board.
FYI, the front row of my pedal board goes into the front of my amp, the rear row goes through my effects loop.

I've been reading up/learning about effects loops.my Amp doesn't have one so I'm not going to worry too much about it but when I was researching delay pedals I noticed more than a few people said they didn't like the delay in front and preferred using it in the loop.. :?:

I discovered a web site not too long ago called The Gear Page..some of the pedalboard set ups people have is just crazy..I was amazed at how many effects companies are out there.i can't beleive how much money people have spent on their boards..some guys are running more hardware than NASA.
I have no intentions of being a pedal $@!&#..just want a nice clean little setup....that's not to say a few novelty stomp boxes won't pop up in the future.

The delay pedals are usually in FX loop if an amp has a distortion channel (and FX loop, of course). It sounds very mushy if you put the delay pedal in front of the amp then (while using the distortion channel), basically it sounds the same as if you put a delay pedal in front of an overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedal. Instead of delaying and fading out an overdriven/distorted/fuzz'ed(?) signal (which is what happens if the delay is in FX loop or behind OD/D/F pedals), something that sounds very pleasant and full, it would feed delayed and faded-out signals to OD/D/F units which would amplify the faded-out and delayed signals, compress them and, obviously, overdrive/distort/fuzz them. That sounds very mushy and usually quite unpleasant, the heavier the OD/D/F sound, more mushy it will sound.

But as long as you don't have an overdrive/distortion channel on your amp (or don't use it in conjunction with the delay pedal in front of the amp), the delay pedal will sound the same as it would in FX loop. The only difference is that a delay in FX loop would delay an already EQ'd signal (of amp's EQ settings), whereas a delay in front of the amp won't delay an already EQ'd signal (of amp's EQ settings), it will be EQ'd when the signal gets to the amp. Overall result? You won't notice a difference in sound.
Due to relatively low amount of tube distortion (unless you really, really push the amp as hard as you can, but that's not something you usually do), a delay in front of the amp with the amp set at it's sweet spot, will still sound good. If you really push the amp hard, the delay will sound better in FX loop.

The loop is basically placed just before the speaker. So, if you put pedals in the loop, they will affect the signal being produced by guitar, pre-amp effects and the amp itself, and then feed that to the speakers, whereas pedals put before the amp will only affect the guitar's signal (and that of the effects placed before them).

I hope that makes sense :)

I don't agree with this. I have an effects loop and I run all of my pedals in front of the amp, delay included. I do not get a "mushy" sound. It sounds like my chosen tone, delayed. If an amp has no FX loop, it seems starnge to only use it with clean settings, if drive is your thing. Sound is subjective. It doesn't sound good to you, but it sounds good to me.
