I haven’t gotten the album yet so I’m in no position to make a judgement. But being a huge Floyd fan for as long as I can remember, I will say that the Waters/Gilmour debate will never cease. I love the Waters stuff especially Animals but I definitely think he was pulling down the ship by the time of The Wall. Yeah it’s a great album but I can totally see why Gilmour and the rest really didn’t want to go down that path. The Final Cut has its moments for me but those happen to be the Gilmour lead moments. Its really a lot of Waters dribble. Nowadays, I look at it this way. Yeah Amused to Death is a great album, love Beck’s guitar work and who doesn’t get a chuckle out of the quintessential Waters one liners like “you don’t have to be a j-e-w (gets censored without the hyphens) to disapprove of murder” but I listen to that album once through and I’m good for a while. The fact that I still go back to A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Division Bell, On and Island, and lately Live at Gdansk on a repeat loop tells me that Gilmour and Wright really were the heart and soul what made their music grab me. That’s just my opinion. Animals for me is my favorite. It was the last glimmer of the old Floyd before it soured and the beginning of Gilmour tearing up the Rams Head.

The Final Cut is actually my favorite Floyd album, though I like them all. I'm curious to hear the new album.

Similar to others, I am not over-wrought with excitement either ... HOWEVER, I totally appreciate the hardcore Gilmour fans being excited about having new (at least to them) Gilmour solos to listen to. I am VERY happy for them.

Finally got my ears on The Endless River. As one of the biggest Floyd/Gilmour nerds I know I have mixed feelings on this. I think there are some great moments on it. Some of the soundscapes call things from ‘A Saucerful of Secrets’, ‘The Wall’ and many points in between to mind and tie in with the musical themes from ‘The Division Bell’ so I feel like it’s a good bookend so to speak. Where I suppose it lacks is where I keep thinking the vocals are going to kick in. “It’s What We Do” is a great example, great song, just feel like the vocals are muted. Obviously I’ll be giving this album some exercise but that’s my initial impression and I will say that I’m very thankful for its release. Can’t help but enjoy listening to Gimour, Wright and Mason again in whatever form. RIP Mr. Wright.
