Good evening ladies and gentlemen,

Any ideas where I could purchase a Stratocaster with the following.

-Arctic White
-HSS configuration
-Alder Body
-Maple Neck

I have been through the entire website and found guitars that are either not of the build quality I want, does not come in the colour, or does not come with the alder and maple.

I thought i'd configure one through the build your own feature, but they don't have option in there either.

Should I just give up on my dream guitar? Or buy the cheaper Strat?

The Standard Stratocaster meets all but the HSS requirement (unless you somehow see the country of origin as base for the "not of the build quality" dismission), and rewiring with HSS is relatively easy.

And there are always the options of ordering a Custom Shop Fender or a custom made Copycaster.

Now, how difficult was that?

Unfortunately there's no other alternative to the specific guitar you're talking about - unless you decide choosing the extremely expensive Custom Shop route to get your dream axe.

Personally I'd recommend purchasing the MIM Standard HSS which has exactly all the features you're looking for. You can hot-rod it at your heart's delight with better pickups, electronics and hardware in a later time.

With the MIM Standard HSS , I'm really worried about the build quality and feel of the neck.

They don't have the White in the custom build website creation thingy.

Good catch, chromeface - I didn't have the stamina to scroll down to to the HSS version on my "arctic white" search results

Just out of curiosity, Pazington, what is it that worries you on that MIM build quality, and neck feel?
The guitar is most likely available for testing (at least in bigger stores) and if you order one online, there is the return option...

If you're not satisfied about the build quality of the neck, you can swap it with a 22-fret American Standard for $499.99 or a compound-radiused American Deluxe for $569.99 - unless you opt for a custom replacement neck from Warmoth.

Upgrading the neck may increase the value :!:

It's strongly advisable to perform a test drive before the purchase. Lots of folks said the MIM build quality has been significantly improved throughout the years.

RE MIM build quality: I have 2 MIM Strats and an MIM Tele and the build quality of all 3 is quite frankly excellent.I have 9 Fenders with 5 being MIA and the MIM Fenders can hold their own against their U.S. made counterparts any day.The hardware of the MIMs isn't quite up to the standard of the MIAs and a cheaper type of woods are used but the fit and finish is flawless. One of my Strats is the MIM Jimmie Vaughn and after trying out at least 10 Strats of various prices and countries of origins I picked the Jimmie Vaughn because it sounded most like the L series Strats of the '60s and just felt right.I was prepared to pay as much as $3,000 but I ended up with the lowest priced one that I had tried.Your best bet is to have a hands on evaluation of the Strats that fit your criteria and try to make an unbiased choice, you may be surprised with the choice that you made..

I agree with playing the mexican Strat first, but giving it a serious chance to win you over.

I've owned some really, really nice Mexican made Fenders. Unless you are buying something that you plan on being your sole gigging instrument then there's nothing wrong with going the MIM route. Hell, even then depending on what you play and where you're at in your journey that could be perfectly fine, too. If I was still playing punk I could have played my old Classic 70's Precision and Antigua FSR Precision until I was dead and never looked back. They were both great sounding and playing basses and I would take them against any American Special or Standard any day of the week. They both played and sounded better.

Honestly, Unless you live in the middle of nowhere like me this model of Strat shouldn't be that difficult to track down in person. Call around until you find one then go play it. If you dig it, get it. If it's not up to your standards then you know where you stand. Ensenada is putting out some really nice instruments. I'd give them the chance.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume you've never played a MIM standard Strat? If your colour choice is non negotiable, then you have no choice. But if you are worried about build quality, then I'd suggest you play one.

Having owned a couple MIM strats and many American strats, the only thing people worry about when it comes to quality over vs MIA and MIM is the choice of owning an American Strat. Some would rather pay the additional price to be sure it's American, looking past the actual value and quality. For what it's worth, neither gains in value and the only street cred you'll get is from your own playing and the sound you'll make.

But if it's the 'made in USA' on the headstock you want, nothing short of a USA made fender will ever make you happy.

The differences in quality aren't that different. The differences in price are very different and the components are. The difference in value are very different also and I'll put it this way- if they were inferior quality, poor value then there wouldn't be so many owners here with them

Get to a shop and make your own decision, but it's the guitar that should choose the owner, not the other way around :)

I went all Acoustic several months ago after 43 years of playing electric but having said that , I used to use MIM Standard Strats and never had any problem with them. I think they have more bite than the MIA models to be honest with you and the quality of them now are definitely worth the price .

+1 Blertles...

I have a MIM Telecaster, and to be honest, it's my favorite axe and my go-to guitar as far as feel, playability, tone and vibe. I'll admit to having modified the electronics (I replaced the neck pickup with a cheap Mighty Mite P-90, I installed a Fender No-Load tone pot, and a 4-way selector switch, as well as a Faux Tortoise pickguard), but the things that are hardest to "modify" (build quality, feel and durability) were perfect from the day I bought it.

To put this in perspective, I have two early-80's (MIA) G&L guitars, a MIA '62 reissue Stratocaster and a history of owning of high-end American-made instruments...the only reason I say this is to show that I know good and great instruments, not just average "starter" instruments.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I live in a rural part of Australia so my range of Fenders to try before i buy is limited. But i will go track one down and give it a good play. I'd be excited if i cant tell the difference if quality!
