I only been playing since last Oct. 2007 and I have had only one lesson that my wife got me as a Christmas present. The thing I remember most about that lesson was I never sound that good before after playing on the teachers amp which start me thinking I would like to have a better amp. Anyway about 6 weeks I finally purchased a Blues Jr. and It is a lot of fun to play and make my inexperience play sound fairly good. Sat. I thought I would try some new stuff so I I thought no since burning the tubes on something I cant play very well. So hooked up to The Frontman 15G that came with my starter pack but it wasn't long till I fired up the Blues Jr. The most important thing I learn about that lesson is how you can really sound. When played right it can sound great but on the other hand the mistakes sound worse.

Yeah man, you just don't know how good your strat sounds until you play it thru a decent tube amp. If anyone out there is playing thru a solid state, doesn't like the tone, wants to change pups....you might want to consider leaving those pups alone and getting a nice lil tube amp instead. You will be amazed.

Hello Progravy,

The amp really is where the rubber meets the road.

Blues Jr. is fine for me.

Best of luck with your music

Cheers.

I started out with a solid state practice amp. It sounded alright the whole time I played it, over the years. Then I went out and bought a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe tube amp, and did my jaw ever drop with the sound that came out. What a huge difference in amps. Then I went one better......bought myself a quality Strat. Once again.........my jaw dropped with the already fantastic sound of the tube amp, now joined with a quality strat. Yep....you have to know how to play, but I've learned a lesson that decent equipment DOES make a difference when it comes to the tone and sound.

P.S. I'm going to have to try that little Blues Jr. one of these days. I keep hearing over and over from so many people, about how great it sounds.

Yep.......everything is going up lately. The main amp I'm using now has gone up $100 in the last year.

Heh....I've had combo amps (multiple brands, including Fender) heads and cabinets (tube and transistorized).....and quite a few other things.

Some were nice, some weren't.

And you know what I play through now most of the time?

A Roland Microcube. I just got the Street Performer as an upgrade.

(Also own the regular Roland Cube 60 watt, and a Line 6 Spider II, but don't use those so much....)

I think Marshall makes a good starter/practice amp. I use mine a lot and really enjoy the tone I get from it.

I do agree that there isn't a feeling like playing through a quality tube amp. But, I've always found playing/practicing an electric without amplification rewarding. It trains your ears to listen for the little imperfections that don't come through the pickups. That translates to better technique if you play. I'd recommend that to anyone starting out.

Tubes are where it's at! Once you play through a quality tube amp you're sold for life...
