I keep mine on a network drive, and a sync up a couple of thumbdrives every now and then. That's a hardcopy as much as a CD is.
One directory with FLAC copies, and one with MP3s for substandard players that can't handle FLAC.
The copies include covers, liner notes, lyrics, a cue sheet and everything else, so why would I need a physical copy? If I ever want one, I can easily burn one from the FLAC, and it will be bit perfect, including length of pauses between tracks.

The only CDs I keep are SACDs, and that's just because there's no legal way to back them up, even for private use. I don't buy SACDs anymore, precisely because of this.

I too have spent very little money in the iTunes store. The music in my iTunes library is 99% ripped from my own CDs.....I prefer CDs to electronic purchases because you still get the liner notes and credits and such. Plus you always have a hard copy.

+1

We (Familia de los Armadillos) have an iPad and formerly owned iPhones...Lady Armadillo's cousin has the reputation or being a PC killer (every laptop and desktop she has owned has died a horrible, painful death rather quickly), but her MacBook has lasted for several years. I have nothing against Apple products per se, and their tech support is generally excellent.

However, they are overpriced and often force the customer into doing things they may or may not want to do.

We switched to a different type of Smartphone last July (Sony Xperia Z3v), and we have been very happy...especially with the sound and video quality.

Yes, I'll grant they are pricey. I'll also grant that Apple does sometimes place limits on what kind of apps you can or can't run. In my opinion OSX is the reason to buy a Mac. Windows is a weak OS in comparison. OSX is based on Unix, Linux, whatever you want to call it as they are just different interfaces for the same kernel. Microsoft did themselves a disservice if you ask me by refusing to port a version of it for themselves. People are slowly waking up to realize Windows is not a great OS. I think that's one of the bigger reasons Apple sales are climbing despite the higher pricing. The NT kernel is heeps better than DOS was but it's still not robust enough. I believe the weakness is in the way it allows software to access the hardware directly.

That 7.7% attributed to Apple?
Yah that's about quadruple what it was 20 years ago.
It may seem small to you but believe me, it's huge when viewed from a historical perspective.
Time was the only place you ever saw Macs was in a classroom.
Macs made up about 1.5% - 2% of the installed base of computers worldwide.
Nobody but nobody ever used one for business purposes.
Now they're popping in business more and more.
My Mac is my company computer.
Before I had my own company I used Windows and cursed every single day.

Source?
Not needed.
Common knowledge for anyone who's been using computers since the 80's.

That's funny, I've been an IT Systems Administrator for quite some time now, and the only place I ever see a MAC is in Marketing departments. Oh and usually the boss's annoying wife has one.

How about those Apple servers? I hear there are 10 times as many out there now as there were only 5 years ago. You know, because 10 X 0 = 0.

Not really. You're just wrapped up in your little MAC world. The rest of us don't know and don't care.

It's also a number not describing the number of users, but the number of (a) uniquely identifiable users who (b) browse the internet on (c) sites that they monitor.

Net Applications has been in fire before, for producing skewed and biased results. Among factors that bump Apple higher is that most of the sites they monitor target users in countries where Apple sales are high, and that the monitoring give equal weighting to weekends and holidays where people are more likely to use home computers, or even browse the web more.
Apple is also one of their big clients, and it shouldn't be much of a surprise that apple.com has a high number of Apple users visiting, contributing to a higher rate.
(Similar for Microsoft, where their newest OSes get a too high rating because Microsoft themselves have an awful lot of users browsing their own sites, and more likely use a newer OS version.)

And technologically savvy users are also more likely to use adblock/privacybadger/proxies and block the counters, and not get counted at all. That likely means an under-representation of Linux users.

At any rate, there is no other company that provide better results either - they're all going to have strong biases. But even so, the number of Mac PC users are rather low. Not low enough to ignore, but not high enough that they get a majority vote.

I bet if I asked you how many grains of sand there are in the Sahara desert you would have an answer.

the funny thing is, if we're talking about what you will see in schools? Well going by my district, that would be ZERO Apple products, plenty of Windows 7 PCs, and the students mostly use these:

I won't argue this or that on the OS choice because I use MS, Apple, and Android with former D0S experience.

iOS 9.02 works better IMO than previous 9.O versions and the battery longevity is a huge advancement as I see it.

I prefer not to keep sole copies of my files on the Cloud, and I make hard copies on disc because there are many hardware choices for playback should hardware or software change or go the way of the dinosaur. I do use USB, and hard drives, but I don't rely on them for longevity. Even 64 GB on my phone leaves little for space requirements forcing one to reach for the Cloud. I would prefer Apple to come up with disposable storage such as USB cards. This would also allow hard copies to be used elsewhere and to keep regardless of the phone or iPad.

I would like to see Apple play back optional formats (such as flash) or at least convert them for research purposes. The web sites could manage this, but some are not capable for a variety of reasons. This has been problematic at times. Technology aside, lost content is never a good thing.

With Windows I fall into a minority. Not being a big gamer, Vista works for me on a media PC with 3 Hard drives, CD/DVD and USB recorders, and room for more, only until I get a new computer. For all of Vista's shortcomings, many older Windows OSs were not better and this one has had many many less re-installs. Oh, and even with this I can add the Cloud!
Android is only now getting their audio production up to snuff and it is still said to have some loop holes in security and such.

Back to the OP's topic - U2's Apple download didn't add anything for me. By the way, check your local music store . . . not only are LPs popular, but cassettes are making a comeback, re-release production is ramping up, so grab your Walkman before the garbage truck comes along. :D
YMMV

Of course. Not an accurate one, but I can certainly reason my way to an estimate.
Questions like these are sometimes asked on job interviews, not to figure out what you know, but how you address what you don't know.
