Dredging this one up for a new thought.
I've had this album playing on repeat for a couple of hours while I've been puttering about the place. It's growing on me. Definitely like it better than some of their previous efforts.
(PopMart springs to mind.)

There are a few bands that fall into a specific category for me.

They are bands in which I absolutely LOVE half their music and absolutely DETEST the other half of their music. Bands in this category:
REM
U2
Elvis Presley
B52's
The Beatles (yes, THOSE Beatles)
Rush

REM -- I can see that
U2 -- I only listen to their pre-Rattle and Hum music (and not inclusive)
Elvis Presley --I can see that
B52's --it's all bad...
The Beatles -- I am assuming you mean the back half; I only listen from Revolver and later (inclusive)
Rush -- Everything they have done is brilliant ...

Apple likes to hold their customer's hands. They were just letting you know what music you like.

When it comes to me, I find this to be true with almost all music. I start listening to groups/artists when they are young and the music is still a little rough and love them, then they become successful and the music loses its edge. My Zune is full of music from groups/artists in their early days and not so much from when they were successful.

I have a Zune as well LOL. My friend an I were just discussing the issue of a bands life expediency. It seems to me that bands that produce really great music rarely go on forever. That lightning in a bottle thing is fleeting and usually doesn't translate to the going solo thing either. I think RUSH is a good example, the band had a good run, 8 good albums and then most of the rest is unlistenable. Even my personal favorite guitar player David Gilmour peeked with Floyd. His solo stuff, although good, never reached the same level. Regarding the Apple issue, I find any un-authorized download intrusive, but as mentioned earlier, its up to you to have to settings correct. That's pretty much the web model these days, just about every app logs all your contact lists, location, and searches. When its says free it really means the cost is all the info in your device.

The OS X upgrade went so well, I decided to go iOS 9.0.2

and the 16GB phone still has 7GB free.

I'm equally proud to say I have no Microsoft products. We're an all-Apple household, except for the PC which I got for free. I promptly wiped the XP system from it and installed Ubuntu.
Apple is gradually turning evil, but I still think of it as the lesser evil (compared to Microsoft).

I'm hoping you'll let us know about your experience with 9.
I've been hearing some stories.
I'm going to wait until at least the first update. Maybe the second.
Ever since they ruined the best iOS ever (6) I am skeptical of all iOS upgrades and take the wait-and-see approach.

Yes. Great games. On a gaming console where they belong.

So you buy an overpriced computer, and then buy a separate console for gaming because it can't do what a PC does ... hey man, more power to ya! Wish I had cash to burn like that! :D

The first update (9.0) wasn't very stable, next (9.0.1) a little better
but now (9.0.2) seems fine. They have programmed voice activation
(SIRI) to do more, the camera has more features to edit with, there's
more "albums" for photos and battery life is a little better. I mostly use
the phone/text/camera/GPS/gas buddy and seldom use Safari.

It also adds some useless (to me) apps but overall I like it.

Sorry to hear you're unable to buy a console. Hope things turn around for you soon.

I use Apple iPods to listen to my music in the car. It is awesome having my entire music collection in one place on an 80G iPod that I purchased from a pawn shop for $40. And with the Apple products, it synchs all the music, album art, etc. so you use the car stereo as the interface. Back 10 years ago or so, Apple was the de-facto standard for synching with aftermarket car stereos and stereos in new cars. Since then, I know many people have moved on to Blue Tooth streaming and other formats. But I never left. HOWEVER, I have never spent $1 in Apple's iStore to download music -- I utilize one of the Russian sites that charge only pennies on the dollar (good for me, bad for the artists' royalties ... sorry).

I too have spent very little money in the iTunes store. The music in my iTunes library is 99% ripped from my own CDs. I think I've only bought about a dozen or so albums from iTunes in total. And one free one of course; the U2 album. I prefer CDs to electronic purchases because you still get the liner notes and credits and such. Plus you always have a hard copy.
