i liked the trip there, got to see and experience a lot. But there was a lot that left me wondering as many have exclaimed, they weren't rock and roll

No Abba in no way shape or form was ever even close to being rock. They were more like soap. All squeaky clean and just so !@$. It's okay to be !@$ cause they were too. I'm not a hater. Brittney Spears- OMG! Same goes for ole' gravel voice Mylar Syriss face. yeah They maybe should call it the Popular Music Hall of Fame- that's what it is really. It's also cold as heck going there in the Winter- the Lake wind is killer.

Um I went to it. I kinda of question why its in Cleveland and not in say Los Angeles or New York City. I wish they had a live stage there instead the inductees play in New York City. Consolidating Rock and Roll artists is a trivial and subjective thing. :|

Allen Freed is why the R+R HOF is in Cleveland. They have live music there from time to time. It's a nice building but I guess I expected more when I went.

Never been there but having said that , I think it's a total joke. IMO, about 30-40 % of the acts don't belong in there. ABBA, Madonna, Run DMC ? , Guns N' Roses ? Please. How come groups like Deep Purple, Yes, etc, aren't inducted in there yet ? It's a total sham and will be as long as Jann Wenner and his bunch of idiots at Rolling Stone are running it.

...which also reminds me. Can someone please tell me WHY the band Chicago has not (yet) been inducted to the RRHOF?!? Even today, they are still amazing musicians and could blow away about 80% of the "stars" on stage today.

I find the idea of a hall of fame to be quite un-rock n roll.
And for that reason I have no plans to go there or much desire.

I suppose if I were in Cleveland and had some time to kill I might pop in, but if I missed it, no big deal.

If I need a Rock N ROl Hall of Fame--there would be one in my head--and other people would complain about who I've omitted and who I've let in. And that's okay.

My thoughts? I think Johnny Rotten summed it up just fine.

The real R&RHOF are the bed rooms of young people into R&R with all their posters.

If any of you mature folks still have your posters up, then I would include you as part of the "young people".

That building in Cleveland and the governing body associated with it are a museum and a joke respectively.

Yet they had no problems accepting an even more vapid award sponsored by EMI marketing:

Then again, The Sex Pistols was a created band where artists were hired in by management - one of the first "boy bands", if you like. Fsck them, and the marketing they rode in on.

The Pistols were formed and marketed by McLaren out of the remnants of a band that was already started with Wally Nightengale. Bringing Rotten in as vocalist and the way he pitched and manipulated them is no secret. All tricks he learned helping The New York Dolls crash and burn. Though you're completely delusional about them being one of the "first boy bands". If the Pistols were a "boy band" then so were The Blue Moon Boys.

I think the point he was making was they weren't as punk as they were presented as being.

On one hand, it's a great honor to be recognized.

On the other hand, the honor is diminished by the RRHOF's inclusionary/exclusionary membership tactics.
