I went a while back, maybe 2001, it was definitely worth the look, I did find that EMP in Seattle was much better. When I inquired about that when I was there, they had a very good response.
They told me everything they have to exhibit was donated, while rich boy Paul Allen has the money to purchase all of the wonders he exhibits. To me that made perfect sense :D

I was there a few years back.

it was cool to see some of jerry garcia's guitars, les paul's "log" guitar, the door's exhibit at the time, and even Janis Joplin's Porsche.

what I don't like is the amount of performers in the rrhof who are not rock and roll. as a matter of fact, I sent an e-mail to the rrhof a few years ago about the inclusion of abba, among others. I didn't feel they deserved to be in, so I haven't been back.

probably worth a one time trip, but I don't think I would go often.

+1 Too many people that should NOT be there.

It is called the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not The Pop Music Hall of Fame. ABBA should not be there (I will never admit it in person but I like a couple of their songs), Rap, Hip-Hop is not Rock and Roll. Just like the "awards shows" polictics and political correctness play a major roll in the choices.

In future years (50 +), if anyone questions why some of the entries are there, I don't think the current staff will be able to give a good answer. Unless it is something like "Well, they had more number one hits in Spain than Elvis and the Beatles"

I went there back in 1997(?) I remember being not as impressed as I’d hoped I’d be. Being a HUGE Floyd fan I was obviously delighted to walk in and immediately see the props from The Wall tour as well as a few other points of interest but I just remember thinking they could have and should have had more. I have more of an issue with the induction process then of the museum part of it though.

I went a handful of years ago. I believe The Who's Tommy exhibit was going on at the time. Overall it was disappointing and perhaps a waste of money. There was some cool stuff there but the amount of pop music crap was overwhelming. Within 5 minutes of being there I found myself seeing Britney Spears outfits and more pop bs than I could stomach. It really gave me a negative opinion of the place and sucked the excitement out of the visit. There is little chance I would ever go back and I visit Cleveland at least every other year. I'd rather spend my money at the zoo near Parma.

The RRHOF has to the biggest farce that was ever connected to the music industry. I'm surprised that so many people who I once respected and thought of as having an almost encyclopedic knowledge of rock music have sold themselves out to enter into what is no more than a hyped up popularity/beauty contest. So many outstanding titans of rock have been passed over so that acts like ABBA,Donna Summer and even Leonard Cohen could be been inducted.Granted these people are musically significant in their respective genres but they are not by any stretch of the imagination rock and rollers. The time is long overdue to scuttle the RRHOF because it has become so laughably ridiculous that I'm sure that true rock stars regard it as a vestigial award that has absolutely no merit or worth because it doesn't come near reflecting the trends of the rock and roll music industry or who genuinely deserves to be honored for their contributions to the rock and roll genre.

Maybe they need to change their name to the Popular Music Hall of Fame.

To give a little, both ABBA and Leonard Cohen have many tunes in pentatonic scale 4/4, and what we now call pop and disco used to be called "pop rock". ABBAs "Waterloo", which is the song that made them popular was considered rock at the time - Eurovision song contest viewers (from other countries than Sweden) complained that it won, because it wasn't pop music.

And this isn't too far from what other bands we think of as rock bands produced:

When I was growing up and that was when abba was popular they weren't considered rock in any way.

Presumably, you're American and didn't hear ABBA before later when they had solidly moved into disco.

I remember ABBA as a pop rock band in their early years, with many songs that were far more rock than much of what Beatles produced. By their third album, they were no longer pop rock, but that does not eradicate what they did before.

I wouldn't object if Beastie Boys got inducted to the punk hall of fame either, even if what most people associate them with is white hip-hop pop.

I haven't been to the RRHOF and doubt I would want to go. It's a joke, from what I understand. I'd rather go to the Hard Rock Cafe in London England anyway. BB King's "Lucille" is hanging in there.

There are actually THREE genuine "Lucille's" that are the real deal. The straight up honest, Gibson ES-355 style guitars.

1) The main one BB King himself owns and plays.
2) Reproduction that BB King presented to Pope John Paul II back in 1997.
3) Reproduction that is currently hanging in the Hard Rock Cafe, London.

Now, if BB King and "Lucille" don't see fit to have a reproduction of his famous guitar in the RRHOF, then you just know something not right with that place!! :?

There are actually a boatload of Lucilles. He named every guitar he owned Lucille, to remember an incident in 1949 where two men fought over a lady named Lucille.
http://web.archive.org/web/20111116041531/http://www.worldblues.com/bbking/prairie/lucille.html

And BB King was inducted to the Blues Hall of Fame the very first year (1980).
