No.1 on the D'Addarios as well . I used them when I was playing Electric and I now use them on my Acoustics as well. Why change a good thing, right ?

I guess I will have to be the lone dissenter. I do not care for D'Addarios at all. I had some real issues with their quality a few years ago. I bought a whole box of electric strings. Ten full sets. On each set the 1st string ball end would slowly start to unwind. The string would go flat, you'd retune and in a few minutes it would be flat again. Then it would take progressively less and less time to go flat until the string would pop out of the saddle without ever having actually snapped and the ball would be rolling on the floor or else stuck in the bridge block or ferrule. I contacted D'Addario about the issue and they did nothing. I sent two emails and tried to call. All three times they did nothing and left me hanging. I took the remaining six unopened sets back to the store and they were good enough to let me trade them in with my receipt at full value for different strings. I will not buy D'Addarios ever again.

I had an issue with Gore Elixer acoustic strings and I contacted them and they literally jumped to my help. They already knew about the issue. They said a bad batch of wire had slipped past QC. The 3rd strings would break after about an hour of use. They asked how many times I had encountered the issue. I told them 3 times. They sent me a box of 5 full sets and another box of 5 individual G strings. That's how you deal with a QC issue.

D'Addario can breath my egg farts.

No, I second that opinion. It's not the quality I expect from strings. I would rather pay more, and not have to close my eyes when doing a bend, out of fear that the string will unravel or break and hit my cornea.

EB Cobalts do the trick for me. I have not had a single one break or unravel yet, and the wound strings are noticably louder. So what if they cost 50% more - string expenses are the least of my expenses.

Judging by the overwhelming response from happy D'Addario users in this thread alone, you might have benefited from this advice a few years ago:

I have no idea why someone would bother to counterfeit D'Addario stings, a low dollar, low quality item, so I have my reservations about the validity of the claim but even if it's true and the info in your link is correct then I had authentic strings.

Beemer, you realize the link I posted is to D'Addario's website ya? Yes it's real, and yes people do bother to counterfeit items as cheap as strings.

But anyway, it's good that you've committed to memory exactly what the packaging looked like for sets of strings you bought several years ago, a good solid memory like that must come in handy!

Yah, you can cut the cynicism anytime. In case you forgot there was more to that link than just packaging issues. The link also shows ball ends and the way the strings are wound around them. Since that was my issue that was what I studied at the time and I remember it well, thank you very much. I was using D'Addarios and I was unhappy with the quality. Just because it didn't happen to you or of the other people posting on this thread doesn't mean it didn't happen. It did happen. I'm sorry if that doesn't fit with your ideas.

I don't know why, but I don't like D'Addarios either. I've only played them a couple of times, but they just don't feel good to me.
On my Gibson, I'm using Ernie Ball Reinforced Plain Strings, power slinky, 11-48 gauge. I was very, very surprised at how long they lasted and how long they stayed fresh. When I switched over to 11 gauge on Gibson, I tried out several (well, got another 2 different sets, but I don't think they'll beat RPS set) different sets from EB. The RPS set stayed fresh for about 2 months (I always wiped the strings with the string cleaner and a cloth) and it took about half a year for the first string to break (obviously, I don't usually keep them on that long, but I was testing the set). My hands sweat a lot and none of the strings I've played so far have stayed fresh as long as these ones.

For my Strat, I'm using Ernie Ball Regular Slinky, 10-46. It's just something about those strings that make me always want to order more of those, even if I already have a couple sets in reserve

Ok I get ya, you're saying the ball ends looked perfect like the 'genuine' ones pictured, yet they we're complete crap. That makes a lot of sense, thanks for clearing it up.

I've been using Ernie Ball Super Slinkys (9 through 42) since 1969. I have absolutely no problem with them. I will say this though, If I can't get them, I use the D'Addario version as I feel they are extremely similar.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

I used D'Addario 10-46 for a number of years and then switched to Ernie Ball Slinkys 10-46. To me, Ernie Ball strings sound better on a Strat and they last just a little longer then D'Addario.

...just my .02 cents.

Unbelievable, I had no idea. I watched a couple of the video's. About the only thing they don't make it do is sound like a guitar. Kind of cool though for a special need here and there.
