I am intrested in a delay pedal.im a play at home kinda guy.my looper and stereo are my band..I've been youtubin delay pedals and have found a few that look interesting.
Boss- DD-3
Boss- DD-7
Boss- DM-2w ( the soon to be released re-issue)
Tc Electronics- Flashback
MXR- carbon copy
Catalinbread- montavillian
Earthquaker devices- Dispatch Master

Some have more features than others but all in my price range.i see the boss DD-3,5,7 models used on Craigslist all the time and could pick one up for half price or less than new.anything I should be considering when looking for a delay pedal?I'm really considering the Boss reissue analog DM-2"waza craft". What would be a better choice? Cheers

Is the Moog Minifooger Delay at $199 out of your price range?
If not, I strongly recommend trying it out.

in any case, I am not a big fan of digital delays, and would immediately have pared down your list to a much smaller list.

No,it's not out of my price range.i will look into it a bit more.i have a few boss pedals and I guess I'm using Boss as a starting point.the soon to be released Boss DM-2 is an analog delay.i have heard that analog is better sounding? Why are you not a big fan of digital delays?

I have been using a rack mount Ibanez DM-1000 ever since the early '80s and I just set it on top of my amp (the delay should always be at the end of your signal chain anyway) and just run my other pedals into it.For Christmas last year my youngest daughter gave me a Danelectro Fab Delay Pedal and it's amazingly good for a pedal that's probably the cheapest delay on the market,it just gives the very basic delay without all the bells and whistles of the DM-1000,but I have other pedals that take care of the modulation effects that are missing when I use the Fab instead of the DM-1000.

BTW: When I use the DM-100 gigging I use 3 amps.I run the dry signal into my Marshall JCM 800, 4210 combo and then run one delay signal into my JCM 800, 2204 stack and the other delay signal into my '68 Fender Bassman with my Leslie Model 16.The combined effect of these 3 amps and with the Leslie throwing the delay signal around is just astounding, you literally can't tell where the sound is coming from.

Lexicon MX-200 rackmount. I don't see the point of a pedal where you can't set the delay time accurately, I play to click tracks a lot and I like to have the delays set to a dotted eighth and a quarter note. The Lexicon syncs to MIDI clock so it's just a matter of connecting a drum machine into it and setting the bpm.

This is just my personal opinion, but for delays, digital is too precise and cold, making things sound less human. A good bucket brigade analog chip is less clinical, and will even vary a bit depending on temperature. Which I see as a good thing. I vary a bit with temperature too. :D
I also prefer slightly less treble end for each repeat, which pretty much all analog delays do by default (granted, some digitals have a roll-off setting too). The fading out seems more natural that way, much like real echoes lose not only volume, but a bit of the top end for each reflection.

But only your ears can decide what's right for you. In any case, the Minifooger Delay is worth checking out. The Moog guys really know their sound stuff and tweaking; even though they're first and foremost analog synth guys, a couple of their guitar pedals are awesome, and the Delay is one of them. It also does double duty as a boost pedal, by the way.

Catalinbread Echorec is mine Grainslayer, multi head thingumy, spoilt for choice in the delay/echo department, also can be used as a boost, never tried it though, my only complaint is internal trim pots, this one has 2, trails and modulation.

I have this rack mount from the late 80's. Still works and I have used it in the loop of my rumble, to great effect. It is a good signal booster as well. I tend to use it for vocals.

I've been using the Malekko ekko 616 since it first came out. I have nothing but good things to say about the pedal. It gives me the option to flip between buffered and true bypass, it's got a modulation effect that can be switched on and off to mimick the old tape delay flutter(although it's more of a chorus effect than anything else) and it's got that great analog decay that gets darker and distorted as it fades out.
But there seems to be several great delay pedals on the market to get you just about any sound you want.

Happy hunting.
