I saw an ad in Guitar World magazine for PerfectPitch.com. I was wondering if anyone here has tried it? I normally don't pay attention to stuff like that because I assume I will develop an "ear" as time goes by. But then I realized that if I can speed up the process it might be beneficial. Did anyone hear anything about it? I would like to know. I don't want to beat myself to death with a morse code trainging program or something. Thanks.

Y' know, 'bought it on tape back in '87 and farking lost it in a not-long-thereafter move.

'Talked with the music director at church thereabout not more than a couple weeks ago; she is finishing her PhD in music. She says we are almost all born with it, but lose it because it is not developed with the devotion we give to walking, talking, writing, reading, numbers.

She calims if you can recognize people's voices, you have perfect pitch. It's "just" a matter of assigning it to musical notes and chords and intervals.

Makes sense, but sounds like work.

Thanks that was the type of response I was looking for. Did you actually use the product when you had it? That seems like a long time ago so you may not remember it well. What did you have to do to use it ..... I don't want to sing out loud or anything. I guess I'll give it a try in a few days. Thanks for your response. I'll let people know what it's like.

I've looked into it and paying for somethign like that seems like balony.
Having a ''good'' ear requires work.
Personnally learning my modes and some theory really helped me improve my ear and figuring what key a tune is in by ear.

Singing what you play though, (melodies and solos) is a better way to develop the ability to play guitar by ear. (hearing a cool guitar riff on the radio at work then picking up your guitar and singing it to find the notes...) Sing stuff that you are practicing. Arpeggios especially! Good ear training.

But the best for me is singing your lines as you improvise.
It really forces you to hear what you are playing on a much deeper level than if you are just wiggling your fingers around the fretboard and listening passively.

p!

Sorry Gomania, 'do not remember anything at all about it. Probably put the first tape on and started to listen and life intruded.

One thing which comes to mind is usually worthwhile stuff takes a gob of work. Got time for it? Is it worth it? Better to use the time as others have said, listening seriously and thoughtfully while you play?

Best of fortune.
