Oh no, between 14 and 15k is the avg number I see for vintage ones. I'm not buying a new pickup for an old guitar. I essentially build hotrods with old, mismatched parts and eventually end up with something cool. Something new would be out of place imo.

All I know is that the MJ Invader was the hottest pickup I've ever played. It makes EMG look worse than it already is.

Even with an improvised setup, this thing plays amazingly well. I'm only waiting to test my MXR 78 because I can't crank a tube amp at 11:00 at night.

Honestly, stripping the paint seems like a good idea too. I really wanna paint it with hammertone paint to see what happens.

I happen to like EMG. I've used them for Reggae, Blues, and Metal with a good amount of success. They may not be the greatest for modern mid scooped Metal, but they are more versatile than people give them credit for.

I think I may have been the only person to ever use them for Reggae. But after playing many shows and festivals with them, they did become a good secret weapon as to having a unique sound within the genre. When you're in a band with 5 other musicians, the mids of an 81 come through nicely. And an 85 with a wah won't pierce. It stays nice and warm.

I had a Godin with an 81. It just wasn't versatile enough for me. I like doing really clean stuff at times and it was just too much distortion with reverb.

I have another guitar being refretted. It has a stock set of Dimarzio SDS-1s. It does everything. I love it to death. Hoping to see it again soon.

This guitar stays in tune even with the MacGyver'd setup. The body pounds my chest with every strum. It resonates so well. The whole thing is so lightweight. The poly is actually very thin, almost thick nitro thin. Its worn like nitro in a couple areas it seems, but the previous owner sanded it in some areas lightly. I'm thinking I'll buff it and leave the big scuffs. I ain't worried about looks too much as long as it plays well, i kinda wanna make a hotrod thats almost the opposite of the Guild. I'm thinking I'll incorporate a graphic that incorporates the style of the Charvel logo with the shape of the headstock, in black of course. As for the godawful pickguard, I have the original, battered, scratched, yellowed, burnt, but otherwise shielded and not warped 92 Strat pickguard. I'm gonna put a black plastic square over the middle and neck pickup slots and use nuts and bolts through the pickup mounting holes, as to not damage it further than my plans...

As for my plans? I already have 2 CTS 500K pots mounted in the second and third knob position. I'm going to get a red button kill switch for the first position, then drill the 2 switch mounting holes for 2 toggle switches, which will be on/off switches for each coil on a Dimarzio X2N Power Plus, which will be the only pickup mounted in the guitar. The saddles will be replaced with black powder coated ones with brass saddles, as those are the only ones made for this bridge these days.

My guitar tech will cut the pickguard before I start the build. I think I'm going to ask my great grandpa to help me wire it. He is a master electrician, and I think with a wiring diagram, we could do it together in an afternoon and I could learn a few things. I'd really enjoy it too.

As for the headstock graphic, my friend took autoshop and has a car fender he's practiced on. I'll ask him when we jam with the Chavel and MXR for the first time on Wednesday as he is also my drummer.

Probably gonna collect parts over the next few months, as money is tight at this time of year. Gonna be worth the wait and money I feel.

And a new nut, set up, and light fret dressing from my local guitar tech.

I think I've decided to coordinate some hardware, a mix of black and chrome.

I'll leave the bridge, bar, tuners, string tree, and pickup mounting screws, and the nuts and bolts for the cover plate on the pg chrome.

The pickguard screws, back plate screws, saddles and knobs will be black.

I think a good ratio of mixed hardware can look good. I have a vision for this hotrod and can already see the finished product in my head.
