Traded the Strat on a Vintage MIJ Charvel-caster. 80s Body, 90s Neck.

I needed a thinner neck. The strat had a good shape, but from really playing it a lot, it's just causing me too much pain to continue using. The neck was too big for my liking and comfort level.

When I have it back together, I'll post up some pics. I had to set up a Khaler trem just now.

This is the pic the guy sent me.

I need to get a couple extra allen keys before I can continue on it.

Body is 1986, Model 3 series

Neck, 90-92. Not sure how to date. CX series, indicated by the "CX" stamped on the heel.

Thinking of really 80's-ing it up. Might do a simple geometric graphic on the headstock to fill out some of that open space.

Dumping the electronics entirely, getting a new pickguard eventually. Maybe S/H, Paul Gilbert injector in the bridge and X2N in the neck. I'd be highly inclined to do 2 bridges, a nice bridge, and a super hot one. Either that or keep it H/H and go classic with Super Distortions.

Thinking of keeping it simple and going black on black.

I've got mod ideas, but my first course of action is getting a set of hex keys for this bridge.

I was in it about $225 maybe.

After being stuck with it, and only it for the past month, I feel like I've regressed at playing. The neck was nice, but it eventually caused a lot of joint pain and I simply couldn't play the guitar like I should be able to.

That's what I'm talking about. That guitar would be right up my alley. Very nice!

I really think I want a single pickup guitar, thinking about it.

I really like the idea of just a vintage X2N Power Plus in the bridge with Volume, Tone, a red button kill switch, and maybe even on/off switch for each coil.

I just want something totally different in that familiar stratty shape.

I've tried that a couple of times, but eventually came back to having neck pickups. If you use a wah at all, a neck pickup is necessary in my opinion. it keeps you from killing people with treble.

After playing for so many years and going through a lot of different guitars, pickups and amps, I'm still learning things. I'm finding myself phasing out high output pickups more. I'll always have a couple of high output guitars around. But with the new amps I have, I'm finding that they sound much better when you let the amp do the work.

High output stuff still sounds good through the Hughes and Kettner, but the Gibson Classics and Duncan '59s really sound much better and have a sense of more controllable tone while still providing adequate overdrive and sustaining qualities.

I've tried the X2N. it is a nice pickup, but has an enormous amount of treble. that's not usually my thing. My favorite sets of pickups are modded Duncan '59s. I buy a set, and buy Alnico 8 and 2 magnets off eBay. The A8 in the bridge rounds off the highs. The A2 in the neck warms the pickup and lowers the strength for more clarity. There's nothing I have in my arsenal of Hums that beats this set.

If you ever want to try something really amazing, that would be what I would recommend.

Nice charvel!! They have the nicest necks around- is it an oil finish? An Idea could be to get N aluminium black HH pickguard, 1x volume and a single toggle, that would make it look like a Charvel So Cal. Maybe go for fluoro green or normal red pickups.. 8) would look cool on a blacked out guitar, takin isn't a bit of inspiration from this one: http://www.cmcguitars.com/charvel-usa-custom-shop-san-dimas-primer-scream-robins-egg-blue-guitar/

I bought a San Dimas and I gotta say the neck on it is the most comfortable I've ever laid my hands on.. So comfortable that I haven't given my other strats any play in a very long time and it also resulted in my selling off my MIM Strat also.. When I A/B them, there was absolutely no comparison so let that black Floyd Rose Strat go. I had no idea how much that guitar sucked till after I got this one. It's got compound radius, jumbo frets, a JB in bridge and 59 neck, grovers.. Good value when compared to a regular Strat and they are basically a Strat anyways being made in the same factory.

I wouldn't say this Charvel has any stripes yet when I still own the Guild.

I had a 1981 MJ Invader with 22K output. I don't think some dinky 14.8K X2N is gonna hurt me.

Well, after a long day, I'm close to halfway completing this setup.

I need to order new saddles, half are completely rusted out and can't be adjusted.

However, I've improvised a temporary solution for elevating the whole bridge itself and adjusting the action primitively.

I'm not sure where you're getting that DC resistance number from. Either way, that's not an indication of output. In terms of output, at least the Dimarzio website gives you an indicative number for it. There's no way to compare the output between the two unless you have both physically handy and play them through an amp, because Duncan only lists their pickups as Hot, Moderate, Low, Vintage.

If you're into that kind of thing, the X2N is definitely hotter than you imagine it to be and has very high treble. They're good for high gain power chords, palm muting, and pinch harmonics, and that was about it for me.

Do your thing, I dig the guitar. Congrats and have fun with it.
