Yesterday evening Blinkers and me with another buddy went and picked up the free Hammond E-262 I was given. There was just the 3 of us because possibilities for more help fell through. It was quite a slug to say the least,I was led to believe that it was in a walk out ground level basement but there was 3 steps to a covered stairwell with a very tight turn with literally fractions of an inch to spare and then about 7 or 8 steps up. I took the ramps that I use to put the tractor in the baby barn and they came in very handy for getting the 400 lb. brute in the back of the truck.Anyway when we got it home, there was absolutely no way that just 3 of us were going to lift it up over the winding steps to our back deck and then down over the nearly vertical 15 steps to the music room. The Hammond now sits in the driveway with a sheet and a very heavy tarp over it and it's going to have to stay there until there are at the very least 4 of us to get it in its final resting place.

BTW: She's a beautiful organ and coincidently she also spent most of her life in a Church of England church just like the one I got just 10 days or so ago. What is an incredible coincidence,as if that wasn't enough, the organ is the very same one that my daughter's grandfather played in the community of Petty Harbour for years. The 262 was built for use in churches and you can certainly tell by the cabinetry, especially the back panel which would be facing the congregation. The organ was supposedly not working but the guy's friend twiddled with some tubes and connections last week and actually had it running for a few minutes,so maybe if I'm really lucky,it won't be a big fix. She's bone dry of oil too,so that may have a bit to do with it.

(in my best Arte Johnson voice)

So you've begun a new career as a Hammond organ collector.
Very interesting.

Cool.

I also moved these organs from their previous homes to my home,so I guess you could say that I've also taken up organ transplants. The latest Hammond is still in my driveway resting on two 2 X 8 planks and well covered with a sheet and 4 tarpaulins.I have to wait until I can round up at least 4 really strong guys to wrestle all 400 lbs. of it down over my steep basement stairs to my music room.If the stairs were any steeper, they would be a ladder,so you need several strong guy to keep it from careening down over the stairs. From info that I've picked up on organ forums, the E-100 series is capable of making some tones very close to nailing the iconic B-3 sound and by tweaking the innards by putting a cap here,a resister there etc. you can also get the desired effects. I have my new Hammond book to refer to and I've also downloaded the pertinent service manuals plus I am getting help and tips from a Hammond fanatic here in Canada who has one of the Hammonds that I have and had the other model for several years. This guy is the Hammond organ equivalent to Arjay when it comes to overall knowledge about their workings etc.,so I should be able to get through a pretty decent refurb with little trouble.

I had intended to scrap one of the organs to rebuild the other but considering the overall condition of the organs,it would be a sin to scrap either one of them. From what I can gather, none of the major components of either organ has packed it in and mainly a new tube here and there and some Hammond organ oil (both organs are pretty well dry,so that can be a big issue in itself)with any luck I may be able to get by without doing too much damage to my bank account. Both organs had been somewhat operational up until recently so I live in hope-time will tell.

I hope you realize you can never move now, right?
You're stuck in that house forever, like it or not.
It's either that or the organs go with the house as appliances.
People will be looking at the MLS listing and be scratching their heads, going, "Honey, what do you make of this one? It comes with 9 appliances ... what could they all be, I wonder?"
