In the mid 70's, our local radio station KROQ put out a compilation album of unsigned local bands. One of the songs that stuck out with me was Rat Race by Legs Diamond. They ended up putting out several records and touring extensively, but never made it big. Despite that they are still out there rocking.
Here's the first song I heard from them:

Here is the group still kicking $@!:

@ Denitronic: I remember Boone's Farm from the early 70s as far as I can remember, they even had a song that gained some airplay in these parts. If memory serves me correctly, they were in the same niche as The Byrds when Gram Parsons was with them but I can't remember the name of that song for the life of me.

Kepone deserves some recognition.

Cry of Love was a great band. Their album went to number 1 but was quickly forgotten. They were great.

One of the best bands to come out of Australia that IMO, should've been huge was Rose Tattoo.

There was a Canadian band from the '60s that was so good that they even got signed to Capitol records, opened for such acts as Paul Revere and the Raiders,Cream and Guess Who,yet they never got the recognition that they deserved. The band was Willie and the Walkers with Willie MacCaulder as their lead singer and main songwriter. They had a couple of nation wide hits such as "Alone In My Room" and the incredibly British sounding "Diamonds and Gold" which IMHO was probably one of the 10 best songs from any band in 1967.Willie MacCaulder later went on to join the very successful Powder Blues band. The group reformed for a reunion tour in 2006 but with another lead vocalist who couldn't do justice to songs that Willie had lent his incredible pipes to.If they had been giving the kind of backing that bands like Guess Who,The 5 Man Electrical Band and several other Canadian groups that they were certainly the equal of were given, they could've easily gained international status.
