so whats the deal with the thing? I never hear much about it, is it worth anything

because its so cheap, if its good, i should be getting one

if not, i'll have to stick with a MIM or a Squier and wait longer.

do you mean the mid 70's semi hollow or the "starcaster by fender" line?

Based on his comments, and poll choices I believe he means the more recent model, not the 70's semi solid guitar.

I can't comment on the modern Starcaster--beyond that I haven;'t heard too much good about it. I can comment on the 70's model--beautiful guitars, and they play quite nicely--despite the fact that I prefer rosewood or ebony fingerboards. If I'd come across one at the right time I'd have one now. It might be at the expense of another of my guitars, but that would be okay.

I wonder if he even knows about them?

yeah, i saw the "low price" comment after i edited the first post. those oldies are at least a few grand.

i don't know anything about the starcaster line, although it struck me as a bit odd when i saw a starcaster distortion pedal at a best buy about a month ago.

There is not much of a price difference between it and the Squire. I think Fender was looking for a way to get a product into the big box retail stores without comprimising it's integrity with the rest of the musical world. It has the Fender name on it so it must be at least okay for Fender to keep it's reputation for quality respectable. It also offers an avenue into the pocketbooks of people who want a low cost beginner guitar with all the fixins'.

I would take a Squire Bullet over a Starcaster.

I have not heard anything good about any of the models sold in Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy or where ever.

From what I've played of them in stores, they're not drastically different than my Squier Strat. They're kind of ugly though... metal-flake finishes and pearloid pickguards.

The amp that comes with it is exactly the same as the Squier SP-10 that I got with my Squier, it just doesn't have the name on it.

I have a friend who has a Starcaster acoustic, and it's not a bad guitar. The neck is a standard Fender acoustic neck (a bit big for my tastes), but it has a "heel" at the nut that I don't like. The body is nice enough, but the finish feels like it's 1/4" thick.

uhhhh, yeah, i saw it in Best Buy...... so... no good???

its about $200 less than a squier there...

i might have gotten it, but got rock band insted (i didn't choose the rock band, parents kinda surprised me when we got home) but i wanted to check here to see if they are worth it

so, could someone please tell me what the problems are and how much they affect the guitar (i've never owned a eletric guitar, only played a MIM strat..) it'd help me alot... :)
