I've had a Beta52A for about 8 years. Back when I used to use it to mic the cab under my 74 Bassman 100. Plenty of good options, but I swear by it. Gives you thick smooth lows and nothing you don't want. I hadn't used it in years outside of letting sound guys borrow it for drummers until my band's latest recording projects. I mic'd my cab to give me another line and it still sounded perfect. I won't use anything else. It has stayed in my gig bag all this time for a reason.

I have no experience with the E902. The E602 is a fairly good mic but it might be more than $200. I don't know if the higher model numbers mean more money or if it has anything to do with anything. I don't keep abreast of the Sennheiser range.

I know the D112 is a very popular microphone but I always thought it sounded kind of honky. I use the word honk. A buddy of mine agrees but he uses the word boxy. In any event I feel it to be overrated. It's an OK mic. I just don't "get" why so many use it.

The Beta 52A is a full sounding mic with a balanced round sound. For bass guitar I would think you'd have a very hard time beating that mic at any price point. That's if you're like me and prefer your bass tones to be clean, clear, spanky and powerful. If you're into mud or droning boominess or distortion/grit in your bass tone then you're on your own. I can't help you there.

Don't forget that with any of those kick drum style mics you can adjust how they sound just by changing the placement. Both proximity and directional alignment are very important factors. When used with a bass amp enclosure a third dynamic will come into play and that will be mic placement relative to the driver cone. By that I mean placement on the "clock" and well as the point between the surround and the dome. Proximity and axial alignment will still be important. With a kick drum you're usually limited to placing at the opening on the skin. No matter which mic you choose you will have to play with it for a while to determine your mic's sweet spot. When micing an amp finding the sweet spot can be a matter of a half inch.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I have to agree with this in theory as I have only used the Beta 52a and the AKG D112 on kick drums but I can see what BMW-KTM is getting at, and in my head it makes sense. Personally I use either a Sennheiser 421 or an EV RE 20 on bass rigs but theses are both over $200
