I owned a '61 Concert for ages, and then swapped it out, about 15 years ago for 'a mistake', only in terms of 'vintage vibe and value'. The mistake was a Line6 AxSys which, nowadays has the value of a $2 dollar bill, which the company's technology has rendered obsolete [which, by the way, it was promised there would always be upgrades for it], yet the use of which is still enjoyed by many. Hence, in a gesture of altruism, I left it in the care of a friend in New York when I moved. He always wanted another one, and he's a journeyman musician.

In seeking to replace it, I followed the Fender line for the past several years but ultimately pulled the trigger on the limited edition Mesa Snakeskin...an upgrade of the original 'Boogie' which was a hot-rodded Fender Princeton. Sometimes Fender needs to look around at the competition. That was a 'helluvan' opportunity at $2500. It's like a .57 Magnum load in a .22 cal cartridge.

Speaking of hot rodded Fenders, what do you think of Rivera amps? The reason I asked is because I have an '82 Super Champ that Paul Rivera had a hand in help designing and it's a really nice amp. Pretty friggin' loud, too.

I can't speak to that. I'll be interested in reading someone who can.

I think those go back to the late 80's, because come to think about it, I now remember (your pic jogged my memory) seeing those around the music shop I use to go to when I first started playing bass and I started playing bass in August 1988. It was around that time period (probably the following year) and I remember plunking around on a red one, too. Man, that seems like 100 years ago, sometimes. :P

PaulLF, you have an emacculate memory ! I did some research and found out that the p bass is 1989. Great guitar, I don't care if it was made in Korea.

I wouldn't say it's immaculate, my girlfriend has brought up things we discussed years ago and I have no recollection of even saying them. Of course, that could be selective memory in some cases. :P Seriously, I think the reason I remember that was because it was a pivotal time in my life were music was concerned, where I was developing as a musician. In some ways, it seems rather alien now. Try to imagine you are a total newb and you have barely a clue on what to play on it. Now, it's just second nature, even though there's always things you can learn, but as far as the basics go. Although, sometimes it will take me almost a half an hour to really warm up if I haven't played for a very long time, but that's usually in a recording situation. That's why it pays to practice and not be lazy about it. :P
