I've noticed a few eBay and Reverb sellers use a very specific spec sheet format on their ads. I was wondering if someone knew if there was a list of these online somewhere. These sellers must be pulling this info from somewhere

One thing to note is this is not the same as the specs listed on the Fender site, as it lists things like discontinued colors and the years they were available. In theory I guess a list of these spec sheets would include discontinued models as well as listing colors that were discontinued within a model. It would be a cool resource to have as I am digging through used guitar listings. I'm sure it's second nature to most here, but as a Fender newbie, I'm finding the way the Strat line is laid out baffling. I find a color I like and its only MIM. Or only in the Special series with the 70s headstock. Ot just in the vintage fingerboard radius. Basically just looking for somewhere where it is all written down.

Here is an example of a spec sheet in the format I am talking about

Pickguard: 1-Ply White, (8-hole)

Pickup Switching: 5-Position Blade:

Position 1. Bridge Pickup

Position 2. Bridge and Middle Pickup

Position 3. Middle Pickup

Position 4. Middle and Neck Pickup

I don't understand your question.
Are you asking the source of these spec sheets?
I have a couple of these by contacting the Customer Support (Service?) link at Fender.com
You send them an email with your serial number and they'll email you back with the spec sheet.

Yep, I bet that's right. The only times I've seen all that extra info about introductory and discontinuation dates and so forth is when Rob Schwarz has posted spec sheets here on the Forum, lifted direct from his official Fender database. If sheets like that are cropping up on Ebay then no doubt the seller got the info from Rob and copied it straight into the sale page.

Oh, and having just checked I see that Rob's department calls itself Consumer Relations. I can never remember that title either. :)

Cheers - C

Hi Ceri and all,
I wish I could claim credit for those spec sheets, cause they are very handy. Our original Consumer Relations guy...who is now the Consumer Relations Manager started this Filemaker database around 1994 or so....obviously because he needed the info since he was the only one at the time answering consumer calls and mail. It is always a work in progress. Unfortunately, we have not reached the place yet that we can make it available online, but that is one of the goals we have been working at for some time now. Another is Serial number lookup. Hopefully that will come sooner rather than later.
So best advice for the time being, since we CAN search by mutliple parameters, is to email or call Consumer Relations and ask for what you're looking for and we'll see what we can find.
Just for technical purposes Ceri, Consumer Relations is one of the 4 Dept's I'm looking after, all of which are in Customer Service. One is Dealer Support, another Parts Dept.etc. Whoo hoo!! (and similar exclamations!)
All the best,
rob

Hey Rob: I don't think anyone on this Forum would make the mistake of thinking you're just Consumer Relations, but it's fascinating to hear the extent of your empire! We knew you were The Man, but now it turns out you're THE Man!

Respect. 8)

Also. Very interested to hear that online serial number look-up might happen at some point. That would be an excellent bit of added value. Very cool!

Cheers man - C

That's an excellent idea! If Fender really do make an online serial number look-up facility that would be so handy. Especially when buying second hand. I'm currently looking at buying a 2005 American Standard Telecaster and I can't seem to find the exact specs for them anywhere on google!! Useless!

PS: If anyone can help me with 2005 Tele specs, that would be much appreciated!
:-)

If I may be so bold, a request: while you're at that, it would also be nice to have all Frontline issues (& their predecessor catalogues as far as possible) available in the Fender webpages.
In case the factory is missing an issue somewhere on the line, I'm sure the forum members would be happy to help
