More Army folks over there than anything else....and yes, there is some personal ambiguity here. I had a PC ripped off that was stashed in an Army area over at Anaconda...

(I take it you're not familiar with US Army procurement techniques, aka if it's not locked up or bolted down it's fair game?)

After 8 years in the Army I'd say I'm familiar with procurement- but to single out Soldiers is irresponsible. Theft occurs in all branches and in all facets of life for that matter. Who's to say a contractor or local didn't steal your gear? You and I of all people should know the Military's image is on the ropes with a lot of people, let's not contribute to their misguided views.

Anyway no matter- Cheers to you for your service. And for whoever stole your PC, well we know karma is a bitch- especially when you're deployed.

When I was stationed in South East Asia, I bought myself an inexpensive acoustical guitar at the base exchange. Due to the very different weather and environment, I couldn't see having an expensive guitar there. I was in very high humidity and it was VERY hot. Not good conditions for a guitar. And even with my inexpensive guitar.......I kept it locked in my locker, along with anything else I didn't want to lose.

I also bought myself an inexpensive bicycle (I got tired of always walking), for my year over there. That I chained to a 4x4 barracks post, so I would have it the next morning.

So....it's probably not a good idea to have an expensive Fender guitar. But then........that's just my opinion.

I agree, you definitely don't want anything too valuable with you on a deployment unless you can really secure it.

I took a video camera on one deployment and it came back with me but it never has worked quite the same. I thought the wife was going to skin me alive for that one.

Sorry- double tap.

Yeah...you're right. To single out soldiers is irresponsible. For that I apologize.

But anyways....WHY in the world would you want to have a nice guitar OVER THERE? Just about anything remotely electronic that I had with me during those trips either got massively abused or outright destroyed.

(There's also an issue with power out there since they typically use a 220v, 50hz circuits for AC power. If you take an amplifier or any AC powered gadgets out there, if you don't use a 110 converter, it's gonna get smoked. And the converters (most of them) weren't designed for high output...

Top that off and the amount of electricity sucked to run the AC units most of the year....eh, I think if I was over there and I wanted a guitar, I sure woiuldn't be looking at "Fender" vs. "Squier" as a 1st choice. And, used at that. There's a good chance any kind of instrument is going to take serious abuse over there...

Now i really do thank everyone who has given me advice. Yes i know i can get someone else to ship it to me it is just the fact that so many times while being here and other places we (military in general) has felt this way. I only posted after talking with others who felt the same way. So once again thank you to everyone who has posted to me.

Where in Korea? There used to be a music shop outside the gate of Osan air base called Mr. Potato's. He had some nice guitars there and gave lessons also. There was also a shop that would make custom leather jackets with hand painted nose-art on the back, I wish I'd picked one up when I was there. Sometimes we'd head down to Osan from Camp Humphrey on the weekends- good times.

But it was nice to see who would stand up for military. I am just wanting a fender belt buckle really bad before i come home. I have went to osan, yongsan, seoul, and a few other places around here(for those of you who know about Korea)

Are you in Aviation?
Is Mr. Pac's bar still downtown? What about the Wall? I miss that place sometimes. But I'm sure it has changed quite a bit since 1996.

I was in aviation there and my wife was MI there. Our first date was at the NCO club there and we saw Paul Revere and The Raiders. My wife had never heard of them (we were/are young) but they put on a great show.
We had a great time and miss Bong and his wife. We spent a lot of time at The Wall. If you can email me, I'll send a picture of Bong and I that you can show him- see if he remembers. Check for my email address in my profile.

Mr. Lee is great- he always said he was going to leave Korea and come to the States because he hates Korea.

Never been to Rucker.

I gave my Father-in-law a bottle of Soju that we still haven't opened, it will probably kill us if we drink it now 8)

Email me and we'll talk about the buckle.
