dvdk...thanks, I wondered about the Fralins vs the TS. I am glad you did this as I was thinking about going with some Fralins and taking my TS's out of my 60's Classic Series, but hearing them side by side, I liked the brightness of the TS's over the Fralins. I am going to visit a buddy soon for a short vacation and he has a set of these Fralins he was willing to sell me. Great timing!

Not much difference to me. But the TS sound alittle more defined to me.

Man, I've gotta get my computer and recording situation handled. I just couldn't pass up the latest gear I've run across this year. Being 100% serious, I've got a few sets of Squier pickups I'd compare to either one of those. They are shockingly great. I've shown a number of people in person, and even did a comparison to TS pickups. You'd be amazed.

If it wasn't for Martian and his advise, I would have never given them a hint of a chance. His advise was (paraphrasing) "At least give your current pickups a chance before "upgrading" anything".

I happened to run across a Squier with a white body for $60. All I cared about was the body. But I remembered his advice and plugged it in before dismantling. What came out of my amp was freaking brilliant. Enough for me to buy 2 more guitars of the same year, same country of origin.

I do have a recording of them. But currently, my internet is just my phone. When I get back online with my PC, I'll let you guys hear 'em.

Nice vid. Great sounds. But I'm not in the market as it were.

Jah Soldier: The idea of these videos is to give you the "naked truth" so that you can decide if your stocks pickups are good enough, or if change them would be really an uprade or not, and ultimately to see if it worth the bucks, but it's your choice in the end.

Great video, thanks for sharing. Seems to me that it would be just a matter of adjusting the tone knob on my TS loaded guitar to duplicate the Fralins. In my opinion, not worthy of an "upgrade". However, if you don't happen to own either of these sets your video makes for a great comparison.

I think you hit the nail right on the head in regards to price justification. I wish there were more videos like this comparing all the different builders and such.

What was wrong with the first thread you had going in the Stratocaster area?
It's exactly the same video and the same question.
You're new here so this is a gentle heads up that we frown on that sort of thing here.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea and you did it well.
Just don't post it more than once, OK?
Please decide where you want to post a topic before you actually post it.
Thanks.

Oh, and don't be surprised if your handle raises a few eyebrows.
You name yourself after a pickup manufacturer and one of the first things you do is post a pickup comparo.
People will wonder and watch.
We have plenty of sharp eyes on this board, mine included.
If you have any business, family, friendship or any other kind of association with Kinman you might want to be upfront about that now.
Just sayin'.

This is another friendly heads up.

It's a good video. But to be honest, I haven't heard of too many people wanting to upgrade from Texas Specials. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they the most popular Fender pickups?

I would probably use this video to see if I wanted to upgrade stock lower level stuff to one of these or the other. But not to upgrade a Texas Special set. I think if anything, Fralin should feel good about their pickups holding their own with the Fenders, however, if I remember right, Fralins cost more. And I liked the Fenders better in the video. I won't write a dissertation on it, but there was a subtle difference that I found more pleasing.

The Squiers I have are, in my opinion, freaks of an accidental nature of sorts. I've since tried many other Squiers that don't come close to measuring up. Any time I ran across an Indonesian made Affinity with a beginning serial number of "IC00", they were fairly consistent and as far as I can tell, specific to that one year. It took me 6-months of scouring the Vegas Pawn shops to find 2 more of them.

I guess my point to that is, there are always exceptions to the almighty high dollar stuff that can be found. Brands and dollars and cents don't mean Jack to me. If it sounds good and feels good, I'm all for it.
