Has anyone ever tried something like this? Never heard of such a thing. Apparently it's a battery operated plug that works like an amp for a set of headphones. Just plug it into your guitar jack, then plug your headphones into the device and you can practice without hooking up amps, cables and other such things.

I'm very tempted to buy this, since I'm often up late at night and want to play guitar, but at the same time in fear of my life, because my wife wants to sleep.

It's inexpensive, and perhaps better than the headphones jacks that are on some amps (the one on my practice amp sucks, when it comes to good sound).

So.....if you've tried something like this product......let me know......worth a try???

I've never tried it, but I've seen ads about it.

Here's some reviews of the AC-30 version...

I've heard good things about them, mostly the AC-30. The Classic Rock model I've heard good and bad, but I've never heard anything good about the Metal version.

The problem with those kind of devices is that they are horrible for your ears. No one uses them at a safe level because they are too quiet at a safe level. Years later you're wondering why your ears are ringing 24/7.

You are right there if I only known then what I no now between loud
amps and shooting my firearms at the range. I now practice at lower levels and never shoot without my sound cancelling ear protection.
Except while hunting then I want to hear whats going on around me
so I use ear plug in right ear for when I shoulder.

i like that if you are learning lessons on the computer you can easily plug it right into your guitar and get to work instead of lugging my amp through the house it's a really great buy

funny you mention it. I was playing one at my cousin's yesterday, the one he has is just a small, low-volume speaker that plugs into the jack and you can play like that. loud enogh to hear, not loud enough to wake anyone.

These thing have been around for a while; I would definatly get one with w volume control on it or install one myself.
If your amp's headphone output sucks it coudbe your headphones; do you have encase the ear" type headphones or those things that lay on your ear that come with CD players; computers? The former will perform much better than the latter.
I am current;y shopping for some wireless headphones for my amp(s) so I can move about with out worry.
Remember headphones intended for audiophile use may not work so well for just guitar; just as some speakers work great for music but not well in your amp...

Yep.....I have the encased type headphones. They're not cheapies, and they sound good with other things, but just not with the headphone jack of my Fender Frontman 25R. I've used it late at night when I have nothing else that I can do for practicing, but I'd like a but more tone out if it. I thought perhaps that plug in the guitar thingie, might work out, if it would sound better, than what my practice amp is putting out. And I like the idea that you don't have to plug in amps, cables, etc.

I haven't seen the ones with the little speaker. But then......I just recently saw the one that plugs directly into the guitar for headphone use. Since they show it on Musician's Friend's site, which is owned my Guitar Center, they just might have one at one of the Guitar Center stores. Then I could give it a try and see if it's worth the money.
