I know it's for the best to speed recovery of my wrist injury just a little over three weeks ago,and with doctor's orders of "No driving",it still stinks being home bound and worse yet,not able to practice my guitar when arm is in a splint. All this time off work on Workman's Comp,...well,I am going stir crazy by not being able to do much. You get tired of TV after a while, and though I do enjoy my radio hobby,I do get tired of it after a while, too.
You simply run out of stuff to do. Oh how I would LOVE to just get out of the house and go up to Sweetwater to visit with my instructor and my other friends there. Can you sense my feeling of going "stir crazy?" Just going to the store,...WITH help of friend or family member doing the driving,...is not enough. I'm just plain bored,...that's all there is to it! :(

As much as it sucks for you, you really should start your own blog somewhere else, this isn't facebook. :(

 that was funny. Dewey, I'm just glad that you are going to get better. Being bored is temporary lol. This may be a good time to put your computer to work by visiting not only Fender gear pages but other gear websites as well to make up some GAS wish lists :D

Why won't the Doc's let you you drive with wrist injury.

I once had to lay flat and still for over 60 days. Then I could get up fully braced for 1 hour a day for the next 30. I memorized word for word every episode of Next Generation. I understand stir crazy. What sucks is being a guitar player you naturally want the use of both hands and you can only watch so many kitten videos on Youtube. Don't worry though, the nerves will subside and you will be able to do things without inflaming them (your almost there). But, if you don't give it time to heal properly you can end up back to square one or even worse. Anything you can do to increase circulation without causing inflammation will speed your recovery. Maybe walking or body movements that don't bother your wrist. Also, nutrition is key during the healing process. Lots of good nutrition and protein. A GAS list sounds like a good motivational tool for doing what it takes to get better!

That decision by the doctor had more to do with the pain meds I was on,...which I am pretty much done with now. The other concern was with my arm being in a sling and the possibility of it maybe getting caught on the steering wheel somehow. I can understand the concern about the pain meds, which would make me sleepy, but the sling I didn't quite understand at the time right after my surgery. I do now, though, after thinking it over. You get so used to doing things on your own so much, but when you have an injury like I had and you find yourself in a situation where you have to depend on others to get you where you need to go,that sense of freedom seems lost,...but at least it's only temporary, thank goodness! I don't want to rush my recovery,of course,...but it does get old when you feel home bound. Biggest thing is I miss playing my guitar,...so I guess you could say I am having "guitar withdrawls". Sorry for the long winded response, but just wanted to share that,...plus it helps to just come on here and chat a bit with my fellow musicians. I live alone and I may as well be honest and say that I do get lonely at times. I know this isn't Facebook,...but just wanted to talk a bit and break the loneliness,if only for a little bit.

Don't worry about it. If posting here helps, post away. I think he was just poking fun at you. Keep us updated. I would like to hear your progress back to 100%, even if we don't know each other. Gives me hope to hear about other peoples success.

I know how ya feel. I have been nursing an injury for the better part of 2 years except I still have to work. But I can't play guitar or video games so my life is pretty boring...

Just an update on this thread. Doctor gave me the okay to begin driving again on Monday of this week. I'm off the pain meds he prescribed, and now just take Aleve if my wrist starts to hurt a little. I have regained most of my independence. Doctor has released me to start back to work, but restricted to light duty work with one hand. I'll be working in the shipping office helping out with paper work for at LEAST four weeks,...no operating lift truck for at least six to eight weeks! Later on,he suggested trying to play my guitar as therapy to get wrist back in shape,...but not just yet. Rehab may be starting soon! One other thing,...my arm is out of that bulky full arm cast/splint and down to mainly a wrist brace,...so I think we are headed in the right direction recovery wise.

I'm glad to see that you're on the mend and that you're off the pain meds.No doubt there will be times when you'll experience pain or discomfort when first getting back to playing. If you start feeling pain and getting discouraged, just think of Les Paul and Jason Becker and get some inspiration from them.Jason especially is still actively involved in composing his own music and even co-writing songs despite being totally immobilized by the ravages of ALS.These 2 guitar wizards have been a huge inspiration to me and have helped me deal with the debilitating condition in my hands.Keep slogging away at it with dogged determination and you'll be back to where you left off in no time .Cheers.

BTW: Ignore the naysayer, you have every right to post this thread, after all it is music related and I'm sure that any forum members with the slightest shred of human compassion and empathy would be very interested in the progress that you are making. After all we are a forum of people from all over the world who have gathered together because they have a common bond of a love of music and guitars.I have been on the forum for at least 6 years and the camaraderie here is what has kept me here for so long.Over the years I have seen several who take it upon themselves to be negative and critical of just about everything and appoint themselves as assistant moderators policing the forum, they come and go eventually getting bored when people start ignoring their petty protestations or by setting them straight.Carry on.
