I guess it would have to be "Let It Be" that was the tune I heard as I pulled into the hospital parking lot to find that my mom had just passed away and I missed the moment! Still haunts me in a bittersweet way......Godspeed on the journey mom!

For me it has to be this incredibly moving song by Chet Atkins called "I Still Can't Say Goodbye". Back in the 80's Chet did a concert called Chet Atkins & Friends, (watch for all the stars in the audience). According to various music articles that I have read, Chet surprised the audience (and even the band members!) by changing clothes, coming out on stage dressed like he was from the 1930's, and sang the song live for the very first time - even the band had never heard it before, and just moved everyone to tears...

Now for me, I kind of freaked out when I first saw the video, and and I just HAD to learn the chords, fingerpicking, and lyrics. So after some time of doing some serious practice with the song, I got proficient enough to play it on acoustic guitar (not nylon string though). I told the older guys at my Masonic Lodge about it and what I want to do, and they agreed. So to make a long story short, we set some time aside from our lodge functions, and I played it for the lodge. I even put on a hat that I my dad wore (a simple baseball hat with the American flag on it, and it said, "Don't Ruffle My Feathers"). Well, I sang the song into a simple mic/pa system in the lodge, and could see everyone trying to maintain their composure. When it was over, and the applause hit, I lost it. As an added surprise, our oldest Mason was in attendance too (WWII Vet - who was in the Philippines, just as my dad was. He was in the Navy and my dad was in the Army/Air Corpse, but they were both there on different bases across the island from each other). Anyway, with a cracking voice, struggling to hold it together, I grabbed the mic, and told the story about my dad and the oldest Mason both serving in WWII. I took off the hat and said that it belonged to my dad, and I would like him to have it. He got up out of the chair and had tears in his eyes, took the hat and put it on, and then gave me a hug. We both lost it. Heck, I think the whole Masonic Lodge lost it that night. What a touching tribute...

"What's Going On/Mercy Mercy Me" is overwhelming to listen to.
