I also play a Mustang IV v2 in a worship band, so don't despair. It is possible. ;)

The upside to the Mustang is you have a VERY flexible amp that can give you a broad range of sounds and tones to match up with different songs. The downside is it takes some time to understand the technical aspects of how to use it if you've never dealt with amp modeling.

First, understand the difference between amp models and presets. Presets are just various configurations of amp models and effects. You have 17 different basic amp models that can be used for the basis of a preset. These range from vintage amps like a Princeton, Champ, Twin, or Deluxe to newer amps such as the Supersonic, Mesa Boogie (called American 90's), or Peavey 5150 (called Metal 2000). Here's a forum link that gives you a lot of information on these models and their usage: http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=75417

Probably the best way to start is the way I did it with our rhythm guitar player when I set up his Mustang III since he, like you, was unfamiliar with amp modeling. It's simple, but it will get you started. Use preset 0 as a clean sound, preset 1 as a crunchy sound, and preset 2 as a heavier rock sound. Don't worry about effects yet, they can be added later. In his case I used the Deluxe Reverb model for the clean sound in Preset 0, the Vox AC30 (called the British 60's) for the crunchy sound in Preset 1, and the Marshall Plexi (called the British 70's) for the heavier rock sound in Preset 2. Refer to you documentation on how to setup presets. Be aware that the Master Volume knob controls the overall volume on all presets, but each preset is tweaked individually by it's preset volume knob as well as it's gain and tone settings. The Master Volume is not saved with the preset because it affects all preset volumes. So play with the gain and preset volumes to get them to all be roughy equal in volume at a given Master Volume setting or else you'll drive your soundman crazy trying to keep up with the differences.

Once you've got your initial presets working the way you want them you can go back and add in whatever effects you want such as reverb, echo, overdrives, or chorus/phasers. These can be individually turned on and off within the preset via the buttons on top of the amp or the optional 4-button footswitch. This allows you, for example, to have an optional tremolo you could turn on or off on your clean channel (preset 0) if you need it for a given song or portion of a song. The state of the effects (on or off) can be saved with the preset. In our case on the clean preset 0 I saved the reverb and delay as part of the preset so they are on when the preset is selected. I did NOT save the tremolo as being on when I saved the preset. Therefore, when preset 0 is selected it will be a clean Deluxe Reverb with reverb and delay, but a tremolo can be added to it if desired.

So there you go. A rough idea of one way to get started with the amp. I know there's a lot of detail here, but your best bet is to read your manual and understand how everything works. Hopefully this will get you started.
