Personally, I wouldn't bother with them. My Fender amp sounded best with Sylvania short plates. I'd rather spend the extra $15 or $20. You can see by my earlier list, I moved the Sylvania JHS from my Fender right into the Heidkamp which is basically a Fender clone anyway right?

Just got an JJ ECC83S.

Sounds like a very nice tube indeed (tested in '68 Super Reverb)!

I've never heard of any RCA built to last only 6-months. I had one in my Mesa for 3-years and it still had 80% life left (50-60 being in the replace range).

+1 I've had RCA power and preamp tubes last over twenty five years with constant gigging and rehearsing without issue. Most of those old tubes were Mil Spec, meaning military specification. They had to work under all kinds of adverse conditions. I'm not saying there couldn't be a bad one but it's certainly not the norm in my experience. I just replaced an RCA 6v6 power tube in my 74 Champ. I bought that amp used in 1986 and that old RCA was in there when I bought the amp as well as an RCA preamp tube that's still in there. I play the snot out of that amp, usually running it flat out through one or two 112 cabs with a Weber Z-Matcher.

My very first NOS preamp tube was an RCA Long Plate. I'll never forget the first time I put it in my Mesa DR. It was like being punched in the face. But not like a regular punch. It was one of those that punch through you, not at you. I never looked back from that day.

I still have a pair of RCA 5u4 rec tubes, and I don't even have a rectifier amp anymore. I sold my amp with all =C= power tubes and rec tubes in it. But the RCA kicked the holy you know what out of the =C= recs.

Remember the early days of Mike Tyson when he would just knock out people in the first round? That's an RCA rec tube.

RCA, Sylvania, Tung Sol, GE, Raytheon. Great American tubes. They have a thickness and bass tone that were unmatched by most Euro tubes. A quick cheat-sheet way of evaluating NOS preamp tubes can be summed up like this.

Euro= high end sizzle
US= rich bass tones

Telefunken being one exception. Big bass.
RFT is like an RCA with early breakup.
And Telefunken and Tesla 803s are God's voice.
