For whatever reason; this is strictly a matter of taste. No right or wrong answers.

I think about this from time to time, especially when a thread comes up celebrating a particular player. About ten per cent of the time, I'm like, meh. I've always been a Clapton fan, but I fully understand why he doesn't exactly thrill some people nowadays. What prompted this post is the current thread about Gov't Mule: while Warren Haynes is obviously a super musician and seems to be a very humble guy who also has great tone, his playing kind of lulls me to sleep. Yeah, I know it makes no sense, but there it is.

Another guy I just don't get is Joe Bonamassa. Technically proficient, sure, but in the end it sounds to me like a lot of notes in search of, well, something. At the opposite end of the spectrum, when it comes to a guy as rudimentary as say, Neil Young, most of the time he sounds okay.

Guess I'm just getting old and cranky...

Keith Richards.....and the Stones in general. I don't get the adoration.

After careful thought, the one famous guitarist who I just don't care for, don't get, or really just don't quite understand...

Steve Vai

Most shredders don't appeal to me because their playing always sounds more like they're doing warm up excercises, that said I do like Steve Vai.I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who doesn't go for Keef.I recently watched footage of one of their latest concerts and all he did was pose and just give the strings the occasional dab-he wouldn't know as much as a 7th chord if it wasn't for Brian Jones' tutelage. The Stones haven't released an album that appealed to me since Goat's Head Soup and only 3 from that floated my boat:"Silver Train","Star,Star" and "Dancin' With Mr. D"

I'm glad that you mentioned Malmsteen,as if his over inflated ego, obnoxious arrogance and mistreating of vintage guitars weren't enough, his playing to me is just as entertaining as listening to a sewing machine going full tilt.

I liked the first three albums by Yngwie, but since then, the ego and the music, meh.

Yeah, Buddy Guy. He's a trooper, a survivor and a warhorse, but to me, crickets.
It's like someone coloring outside the lines in a coloring book. Could be interesting,
just not in this case.

Carl Verheyen. Someone 'splain it to me, please.

Jimmy P. Awesome acoustic player, flashy, cliche' driven electric player. I still like him and his music, however. Looking forward to his biography...

Me. I suck, but I'm workin on it. Suckage in remission...Wait, you said famous...

Zakk Wylde. Ever try to listen to a Black Label Society cd? I'll bet be does that damn squeal over 100 damn times. It's like the catch phrase that won't go away.

I've always been a huge Steve Vai fan. I LOVE watching the seemingly impossible stuff he can pull off. But I can't take a lot of his songs. The songs on his last album were outright terrible. It's very odd to have a favorite guitar player and not really like most of his songs. But when that dude decides to get down and dirty, there's just nothing like it in the world. For The Love Of God is one of the single greatest guitar pieces I've ever heard in my life. And to see him play it live is completely mind blowing.

The only time I ever really enjoyed watching Steve Vai was in the movie Crossroads - cuttin' heads... yeah! Though I still cringe when he drops his guitar.

To be honest, I really don't think a lot of blues guys are too special. There are the greats, then there are the other greats, and the other greats.

Blues players these days are just so diluted that it's hard for me to get enjoyment out of it.

+1 Phenomenal!

I saw him in a small place called "The Vogue", and thought that the other guitarist was much better.

Other than that one beautiful exception, nah.

I also agree with the shredder nominations. Vai, Satch, etc. they do nothing for me.
I could try to explain why they do nothing for me but that might devolve the thread into a pissing contest.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
