The US generally has better craftsmanship and overall quality, but some of the MiM's are incredible guitars. I have a Deluxe Players Strat which plays amazingly well. The fact that it's made in Mexico had no bearing on my decision to get it. It seemed very comparable to some of the American models.

No kidding. I have an Epiphone Les Paul (which is made in like, Korea or so) and it sounds just as good as any Gibson Les Paul to be quite honest.

Kind of like some guitarist-moral- don't buy it just 'cause it says "Made in USA," because the "Made in Wherever" product can be just as good if not better.

I have an Epiphone Elitist Les Paul, which isn't made in America. It's easily better than any Faded Series Gibson and even some of their lower end models (studio, etc.) It was much less as well. It seems that it's just perceived that American guitars are automatically better. While for the most part it can be true, there are a lot of exceptions that will save you great amounts of money.

Ya My Custom Plus LP plays better then the Gibby I had for years
and it was made in Korea. I do not put as much stock in were
things are made. Just because its is made in America does not meen
it is better. If thats the case Honda and Toyota would be out of the
car buisness we would all drive Fords and Chevys or Dodge. I
do research and try, then buy If I like no matter were it's made.
I have played the Korean made Fender Tele FMT and it is nice so nice
that if I had 600.00 in my pocket I would have bought it on the spot.
The set-up was right on low and smooth and play with a lot sparkle
coming from it on a vox AC15 in the store. Some of the best guitar
luthiers in the world are from Asia.

MIM just stands for Made in Mexico.

And respectively...
MIA -Made in America.
MIJ -Made in Japan.

I haven't seen a lot of MiJ's out there in recent years...occasionally you'll see 'em on the used market.

Yeah, currently MIJ guitars are made in Japan for internal sale (ie. non-export), that's why you can only get them 2nd hand, occasionally.

..There are some models that are Japanese that retail abroad though, like the '51 Classic P-Bass.

In this experience, a well-made, pro-set up MIM will play and sound every bit as good as a well-made, pro-set up MIA. Be aware of all the qualities and what you want while searching.

Shop careefully and then bring the factory setup to a top-drawer tech to make it real. And you will be one happy guitar picker.

I guess you are talking about the American Standard vs. the MIM.

They are both fine instruments.

Though in relation to quality (wood, hardware, fretwork, electronics, etc...)
you get what you pay for.
