...at Iridium in NYC. It's been a long time (too long) since I last saw Mato; as a matter of fact, it was with the original Indigenous line-up. There was a great quote about Jimi Hendrix, apologies that I don't remember who to attribute it to, something about Jimi playing the sound of the world turning, in other words, all of the emotions that are found in life. Well, IMHO, Mato is one of the few guitar players who you can say that about. He played joy, sorrow, longing, anger, elation, the entire spectrum of emotion, on his Strat. I would say that his music has taken a bit more of a song-oriented approach in the past decade, and his songs tend to have a similar feel, but his sincere and honest approach to his guitar playing go a long way. And his playing, well, wow! By the end of the set, when he really started digging in and turning on the power, it was truly as good as it gets.
Picked up a CD and chatted with him for a minute after the show. Really friendly guy. In this day and age, it's good to see that a guy like Mato can still be out there playing.

That's really good to hear, Sunburst Blues. I got to see the original Indigenous shortly after their breakthrough hit, "Things We Do".

I have been a fan for many years now after seeing them on Austin city limits....i have three or four of there CD's, but they never seem to come out to the pacific northwest.

This is one of my favorites......

Really liked them when they first came out. Never really broke big. As I recall there was some trouble in the band where most everyone left. Hadn't heard much from them since.
