Here's more food for thought which I sincerely hope won't create another sh!tstorm.

Up front, the following is merely IMO where YMMV:

As we all know, there are many outstanding pickup manufacturers out there. All excel in one vein or the other but no manufacturer has a lock on all the different pickup types and applications. So, if, for whatever reason, you were only able to use one manufacturer's products, which one would it be and why?

My personal choice believe it or not is DiMarzio. This is simply because as I've said above, there are better manufacturers for certain given specialties but at least with DiMarzio, the pickups are readily accessible, well made, the price is reasonable, customer support is fantastic, and the vast majority of their offerings do get the job done to a most satisfactory degree.

Discuss.

I too prefer the DiMarzio's but not exclusively. Fender still winds some nice pickups (Fat '50s, Tex-Mex, CS54's, many others) and both Fralin and Kinman offer some outstanding choices as well.

I can't choose just one Bare Knuckles, The Creamery, Fender CS, Seymour Duncans. In that order of preference.

Although the greatest Strat pickups I have ever heard in my life are the stock X1 pickups in my 1983 Strat.

Torn Between Dimarzio and Fender. If I ever dropped the Laces from my 92', I'd get a set of Paul Gilbert Injectors.

I went with Seymour Duncan in this poll. And mainly it's because of my current favorites. Also keep in mind, I'm more into humbuckers.

It's hard for me to choose. I have my share of DiMarzios and Gibsons. A few off brands as well.

I think I probably have more Dimarzios than any other brand. But I could never really get into their "Air Bucker" neck pickups. That's where I tend to lean more toward Duncan and Gibson. When buying a humbucker set, I would rather go with those two.

My Gibson '57 classics are awesome, no doubt. But when I do a mag swap in Duncan '59s, it's incredible. When I compare guitars, they just have a way of out shining the others.

I can think of some sets that I've been dealing with over the years that I'd consider very good.

Gibson Classics
Duncan '59s
DeArmond Gold Tone
Giovanni GVH-1
Roland (unknown maker)

But I'm completely sold on the mag modded '59s. I'll be working on my next project this week after acquiring another set. I'll be swapping sets in a couple other guitars down the road as well.

Oh the joy it will be to finish this one up. The mag swaps have already been done.

I generally haven't liked anything as much as the Fender pickups in my Fender guitars.

Oddly my favorite humbuckers in any guitar I have owned are the stock ones from my 80's Ibanez (from the FujiGen Gakki factory.)

My buddy has an old Gretsch with Filtertrons, and they are amazing.

I voted Fender, but truthfully, there are so many awesome pickups out there.

I chose Duncan, but also like many others such as Don Mare's and Bill Lawrence's and of course, Fender's.

I chose Duncan just because as a primarily P bass player Fender's offerings are a joke. Granted. Their higher end stock pick ups like the 57, 59, 62 and 51 Precision Pick up are the standard. However, outside of the 62RI (which has been available for over a decade) you can't purchase any of these from Fender. Which is pathetic.

With the 57 and 51 Precision being my two favorite Fender tones. The Seymour Duncan Antiquity pick ups are top shelf and do the best aftermarket job of getting them. (I owned a bass that I put an Antiquity Raised A 57 model in for years. KILLER tone. ) They NAIL that old school Fender tone, and luckily Seymour is cool with taking care of the bass customers that Fender has chosen to ignore. (as usual)

Also, the use of the 1/4lb P pick up and it's virtues for punk and hard rock cannot be questioned. That to me is the standard for that use. So Duncan gets my vote.

I have heard really good things about the Lollar 51 Precision pick up, though.

I chose Fender, because I like the sound of the CS60's on the Am. Std.'s. If I were to go with another pup brand, SD without a doubt.
