As always, on the hunt for gently used Fender amps in need of a home, I found a VOX AC15AC1 in excellent condition. Not what I've been looking for...but I'm getting an itch and I'm having visions of driving there later today...

Asking price is about $400...claims to be 2011 model...with original paperwork.

Thoughts?

There's one in your area for $381 on CL.

Given that GuitarCenter sold them new for $400 at the end, and that you won't get the warranty by buying used in the US, it doesn't seem like such a great deal.
If it has some really nice replacement tubes, maybe. Otherwise, anything over $300 seems too much.

Yep, that's the one that caught my eye...

Can you identify the differences between this model and the newer ones that are selling new for close to $600?

Thanks.

Well...I made the trip over to the shop...and after nearly an hour of playing I couldn't find anything wrong with it. It's very quiet, barely any wear on the cabinet, and the grill cloth is immaculate. The paperwork is still in the sealed bag. Someone either barely used this, or cared for it nicely.

As expected, it is clean and bright with a lot of dynamics, and gets crunchy if desired. It is nice to have a master volume control as by itself it can get very loud. It plays well with my collection of pedals. Working with the tone-cut circuit is a new feature...I'm looking forward to lots of playing time to figure it out. I'm also curious to using both input channels with my ABY switch...either together or alternatively...

I'm still looking for the right vintage Fender amp, but this will keep me happy while the search continues...

Cheers.

You won't regret buying the AC-15,I already had 5 Vox amps before I bought mine but they were all either hybrid or solid state. The AC-15 is now my go to amp because no matter which guitar I use through it,it brings out the best in each one.Strats especially sound fabulous through the AC-15,30,50 etc. amps,it's easy to see why Rory Gallagher swore by AC-30s because they played such a great part in his incredible tone.I was lucky enough to be on the second row in an aisle seat and right in front of him at a concert at our uni and I was just floored by the incredible tones that he got from his battered AC-30 and even more battered Strat. There are incredible sounds in a guitar and AC-15 but the fun is trying to bring out as many as you can.Enjoy your amp!!!!
