I prefer the feel of the maple fretboard. But most of all I prefer the look. I just like the look of the vintage strats and the maple looks vintage.

I prefer a rosewood fretboard because they sound a bit warmer than the maple. And the look is just to die for in my opinion.

This is a good example of what different
people consider the variables in tone...

I like a maple fretboard cause,,, I think
it has a warmer sound...

What I hear you may not hear,,, what you
hear I may not hear... It seems everyones
perception of tone is different...

I think what that says,,, is get what sounds
good to you...

Too me it's more about esthetics, I just think the maple looks better. As far as tonal differences, they aren't large enough that the tone knob can't take care of those differences.

I personally am a rosewood man myself. I just prefer the feel more than maple, but i also prefer the look of a rosewood fretboard. As for sound, I really can not tell much of a difference if any between the two, as pickups, amp and effects overpower most tonal difference between maple and reosewood fingerboards.

I prefer rosewood, mainly just because thats what I have always played on so I'm not too familiar with maple...

I'm with cryingstrat- to me, nothing says Fender like a Maple fretboard- my Squier has a rosewood fretboard and I do like the feel of it, but my Fender's maple board feels good as well- it's all about the look. 8)

Using rosewood currently
do not mind getting both
Hendrix played both rosewood & maple
so both are good

Whatever is on the guitar which the body-mind-soul decides to play at that moment or whichever is calling to be played.

And that goes for brand and body style and material and pups, too.
