Oh I have a lot of favorite bass players. But in Jazz music it's Marcus Miller, I think.

I know there are many lesser known greats, but John Baldwin (John Paul Jones) is one of my all time favorites. He added so much depth and interest for me to songs.

Someone did mention one of these two, Tom Hamilton and Cliff Williams. Bass guitar players for the two giant groove machines of rock and roll. 8)

One last vote for Randy Jo Hobbs. Here is a wiki post about him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Jo_Hobbs
Does anyone remember Randy? The McCoys, Johnny Winter And, Edgar Winters White Trash, Montrose and something I did not know is that he did recordings with Jimi Hendrix in 1968.

Postscript: Lemmy Kilmister deserves a mention for his contribution to hard rock. 8)

My contributions are of lesser known and unsung heroes of the blues and soul. They are all groove monsters!

Johnny B Gayden and his early contributions with Johnny Winter, and Muddy Waters' comeback album Hard Again, then with Albert Collins for twenty-some years, and later on with Lucky Peterson. Today he lives and works in Goshen, Indiana and plays in several bands in the lower Lake Michigan area. A living blues legend!

Freddie Crawford, who played bass with Jimmy Rogers and was on his All Stars album featuring Clapton, Jagger, Richards, Kim Wilson and others. Jimmy passed away shortly after it's release. Don't know a lot more about Freddie, but would like to hear more of him.

Harry Womack of The Womack Brothers and The Valentinos. Some of Harry's best work is on Bobby Womack - The Soul Years. This album features Bobby Womack and Bill Withers singing Bobby's tune It's All Over Now, which The Stones covered and it became their first big hit. Harry's percussive and melodic playing belied his young age and he died in the early 70's at the age of 24.
