I ordered an inexpensive Epiphone ES-335 Pro (sunburst) from Musiciansfriend on the 31st of July. The availability date was 10 Aug 2014. Each day since then, I have checked the availibility date and each day it changes so that it is ALWAYS 10 days in the future (for the sunburst model). Yeah Right!

I contacted MF via email and their response was just gobbledegook (sp?). When I spoke to one of the representatives, they "understood my concerns" and were willing to work with me on price or sell me a different guitar altogether. Also, after looking at some of the other online retailers (also out of stock for the sunburst), they list 4 October as an availablility date.

Why can't Musiciansfriend just tell the truth instead of blowing smoke up my butt??? In my opinion it would be better to just be honest and tell me the real date... A little trust goes a long way in my opinion...

I've faced the same situation when ordering parts for my antique Chevelle. You'll recall that homily about the most oft-repeated lies in America......"the parts are on order" is high on that list. You just have to wait the bastards out.

Did you concider the chance it has nothing to do with the shop?
Just maybe it's the manufacturer who for some reason can't satisfy the demand.

Doesn't Musicians Friend equal Guitar Center? Perhaps Gibson hasn't been paid and is withholding merchandise.

Availability dates aren't computed by the retailer. The retailer gets this information from the manufacturer (or at least they SHOULD). It's not uncommon at all for manufacturers to be overly optimistic about ship dates as that keeps the retailer from moving to a different manufacturer. Quite honestly in my experience I tend to take estimated delivery dates from ANY manufacturer (music equipment or otherwise) with a great deal of salt.

I doubt that it is Musician's Friend who is blowing smoke. When I heard about the upcoming release of Fender's new G-DEC 3 Thirty series of amps (some years ago), I went online and pre-ordered immediately. The "availability date" was Feb 8. The amps arrived on March 15th. Yes, the date kept sliding away, but it was Fender behind the repeated delays, not MF.

Both ZZounds and American Musical Supply show the expected available date of either 4 or 6 October 2014 for this model and color. It has been that way all along and I guess it seems like they are being honest about the long wait. MF however changes the expected available date to always be 10 days from when you check so that you think you have a short wait and go ahead and order the guitar. It may just be me but it seems like they aren't being honest...

I gave up and cancelled the guitar anyway. :( :( :( I am tempted to order the Epiphone Sheraton II instead. I don't really need a new guitar but you know how GAS can get the better of you...
