I have a attachment for my power screwdriver that slips on a guitar's tuner and tightens or looses it without tiring your hand and it is a real time saver. But ya gots to pay attention to what yer doin'. I had it on tighten and the first string snapped like a twig and cut open my right hand between the knuckles and fingers. what a bone head I am, lucky I didn't put out an eye. Watch what yer doin'!

Thanks guys, it bled pretty good because I'm on warfarin, but oddly it doesn't hurt hardly at all. That's what I get for being stoopid.

Yea, I notice that my hands generally don't hurt unless something is.smashed, dislocated, or broken.

I took a $@!& ton of my thumb off this year, and I was more mad about the hospital wait, and more scared of the idea of getting stitches. :P

Interesting question posed.
I've always tended to wrap as much string to a post as allowed by post's tapers.
At the moment i've got 19-1, locking tuners (which i never lock because don't use my trem arm).
Luthier and others tell me that abouts 1/2 turn of string onto the post is the "correct" way to do it......and indeed, the way it came from the factory.

I still tend to "overwrap" more than that recommended 1/2 turn......but less than filling up the string post with no tuning issues.

I'm sorry about your accident man, but really, these string-winders take seconds and are a bit more forgiving than power tools.

Goodonya ...Mark.

Good advice! I'd be nervous using power tools with these instruments. Besides, I enjoy the hand's-on approach when working on them, anyway.

Thanks Mark I've had those for over 25 years. What I have is 10 times faster, you just can't daydream while using it.

A battery powered screwdriver ain't exactly a "power" tool in my book.

 Yea, I guess I agree in general, but I like the feel of a hand tool in hand, and I have more control over more tedious work.
